5 out of 5 eggsWorks So Far

Pros: Untill the price goes down this is a nice big drive for the price

Cons: The price is a little high but that's not really anyone's fault

Other Thoughts: I plan to use this as an external data drive and it seems well suited for that task.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied

Pros: - It stays cool.
- Uses the least amount of power out of all 6 of my Hard Drives.
- Runs quite.
- When it is spun up it is the fastest due to its 64MB cache.
- Backwards Compatible with SATA 3.0Gb/s

Cons: - It takes an extra 30-45 seconds to spin up to speed because of its Power Saver Mode.
- First drive sent to me was DOA. RMA'ed it and within 7 days I was cruising. (I blame the massive manufacturing for creating DOA, not Seagate or Newegg.)

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my Synology NAS !!!!!!

Pros: Quiet, affordable, energy efficient, no failures yet!

Cons: Minus 1 egg for mealy 2 year warranty...very pathetic and lame SEAGATE !!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: I have been running a pair of these in RAID 1 configuration for one year solid in my Synology DS211J NAS device. These devices get lots of use on a daily basis. I also have these in many of my clients' NAS devices in various RAID configs. These drives are perfect for environments where 7200RPM speeds are needed or not as important as energy savings and reliable functionality are.

I can honestly report between myself and about 30 or more of these in client locations, none have been RMA'd or given any problems so far. I have had drives from WD, Fujitsu, Samsung and Seagate fail. That is part of the game my friends. It happens. I can say that the RMA experience with Seagate has always been painless and replaced within 2-3 weeks at most.

2 out of 5 eggsIt broke down

Pros: Bought it in Feb. of this year. Seemed to work well and used it to back up nearly 1.5 TB of data.

Cons: Was using it to create another backup and it died. Grinding noises and Win 7 popping up error messages. Going to call Seagate and see how that process goes.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm!

Pros: I purchased 4 of these for my Drobo unit and they have all been working great for a few months. I was a little worried when 2 of the 4 arrived and the packaging was bare minimum (I was afraid they would be DOA). Knock on wood, they all were in working order.

Cons: The packaging could have been much better (i.e. foam, bubble wrap, etc.).

4 out of 5 eggsLots of storage for cheap

Pros: 2TB at a decent price. Not DOA and works like it should.

Cons: Slow drive speed (5900 rpm) and its noticeable to me. I wouldn't recommend putting your OS install on it.

Other Thoughts: Seems a bit louder than my other drives.

2 out of 5 eggsReview update

Pros: This is to update a 1 egg review that I wrote before I got 1/2 of a RAID 1 that I ordered back from RMA.

After I finally had two working drives, they are actually pretty decent. :P Transfer rates aren't the fastest, but more then sufficient for basic data storage. Two of them working in RAID 1 is virtually silent, you only really hear them when they spin up. Unfortunately I'm just not that confident in the quality...

Cons: I can't really recommend these for anything but a redundant RAID mode. They are probably fine if they stay put, they are just really sensitive to being shipped or something. Shock absorption is obviously not one of this disk's strong points.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA on Arrival

Pros: Nice Price for 2TB drive

Cons: DOA out of the box

Other Thoughts: Had lots of negative experiances with Seagate over the years, but I decided to give Seagate another try to convince me they are worthy of my Patronage.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Back ups

Pros: Cheap, functional, and plenty of space. Using two of these for back ups.

Cons: Short warranty, but I'm sure that's to keep the price low. Prices have gone down since flooding in Thailand but they still haven't gone back to normal.

Other Thoughts: People need to stop complaining about paying for shipping when doing an RMA. Seagate's warranty service is great, especially if you pay for cross shipping. Those shippers aren't going to pay for themselves. All manufacturers make you pay for shipping when it comes to RMAs under their warranty. It's a fact of life you have to deal with and the cost of shipping is pennies, especially when you value your data and need a new hard drive ASAP.
