5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive

Pros: Like other people have said, because of all the horror stories I have to write a review on this. I've had this for 2 years now and it is running like a champ. Write speeds burst 200 constant of 130. I've recorded a fair bit of video gaming to this and then compressed and deleted the old files and it is still just fine.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up after 3 years heavy use

Pros: 3 years and still going strong, no errors, no problems

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just wanted to follow up because it seems the only people that post have such horror stories. I hate buying hard drives because of them.

I'm retired and I practically live on my computer. My computer is on from the minute I wake up, until I go to bed, so it's running about 16 to 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. I bought two of these drives in March of 2011 and now in March of 2014 they are 3 years old, and still running perfectly. No bad sectors, and no errors....knock on wood.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money even if it is on sale

Pros: The only pro it had was its price on sale

Cons: Very unreliable. It lived only 16 months in my case with A VERY LIGHT USE. It was in my docking station, so it was used very rarely to dump some movies to this disk which served as movie archive. But since one week ago, it started dying - unreadable files, and today it showed as unformatted. All my movie archive was lost. Luckily it was not an important data for me. This disk is just a piece of garbage. Never ever I am going to by any Seagate!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsStill running great after two years

Pros: -High storage capacity
-Quiet
-No problems yet after two years

Cons: Not an SSD, but that's not the HDD's fault.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this for my PC two years ago and it is still running just great as my primary HDD.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet & Reliable

Pros: Have had it since 2/12 and have had no issues at all - used it with Win 7/8 with no problem. Using it now as a data drive (OS now on SSD). Very quiet - don't even know its there (at least over the fans). Provides average transfer speeds.

Bootup was surprisingly quick on Win 8 but 7 always seemed a little slower. That's probably the OS not the drive.

Cons: 2TB are now a lot cheaper.....
Could be a little faster but I knew that buying it and didn't really need it
Also beware that the formatting will bring it down to 1.8ish TB but that is standard

Other Thoughts: If you need a good quiet storage drive with average speeds buy it

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Crappola

Pros: I'm not understanding Seagate's problem with my using a harddrive any way I see fit. If I want to use a sata to usb adaptor instead of hooking it directly to a motherboard, what should it matter. I've been doing this with harddrives for years.
So, I had backed up about 7000 movies on this drive about 40gb at a time. strictly used for backup, not used but once every 2-3 weeks for storage. Well, one day i lost power to the drive when it was plugged in and that killed it.
It started beeping and never worked after that. so i send it in for replacement and i get it yesterday and as soon as i hook it up today, it starts beeping.
I'm chatting with a seagate rep online today and he says it's only tested to work with a motherboard and all other uses are verboten.
Seagate, i already lost 7000 movies and paid over $11 to ship the first drive back to you only to be told i can't use it.
So Seagate, if it doesn't work, it's not a good deal at any price so I will NEVER buy another Seagate product

Cons: can't count on this drive or this company except under specific conditions.

Other Thoughts: your replacement drive may find it's way to the bottom of the canyon.
