1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Purchase

Pros: Good Price

Cons: Terrible Hard Drive. I have had this hard drive for less than 4 months and it constantly stops working. It makes a loud noise and the computer will not recognize it anymore, particularly when data is being transferred from it. If I shut down the computer for a while, and then turn it back on, the computer will recognize it. I would not buy this hard drive again and I am unsure if I will ever buy from Seagate again.

4 out of 5 eggsIdk yet...

Pros: Best price to performance Hard drive i've ever bought.

Decent speed.

Cons: It sometimes makes clicking noises.
But as long as it works, no complaints.

But you should know that if a Hard drive makes constant irregular noise, you know it won't last long.

Other Thoughts: I hope it doesn't fail on me one day. It is really nice for the price though.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible product!

Pros: Seems like a good purchase with a reasonable price.

Cons: Absolutely terrible product. After purchasing one and properly formatting and installing it, any time you are accessing data you hear an obnoxious clicking sound, and failing to retrieve the data causes constant crashes. Was shipped a replacement device, and the exact same thing happened. This is a completely new build with two other smaller hard drives installed as well, and this drive is the one causing the problems. Terrible purchase, do not waste your money unless you want to constantly be without a decent hard drive and constantly paying $10+ dollars for shipping fees.

1 out of 5 eggsSeaGate and NewEgg, not a good combination

Pros: The price is reasonable.

Cons: After purchasing it's older brother, the 1TB ST31000528AS (3GB/s write speed instead of 6GB/s with the 524AS), a firmware upgrade was mandatory and not performing this upgrade could result in a drive failure and data loss. Great way to start a new system purchase. This drive should have been recalled by Seagate and I find it inexcusable that they should rely on users to manage and correct their problems. Even after performing the firmware upgrade, the 528AS drive failed within 7 months. ActiveSMART indicated too many bad sectors. It was covered under warranty but again, Seagate relies on customers to manage their problems.

Other Thoughts: This Seagate drive is known to have problems In addition, I have found by personal experience that Newegg recycles RMA'd products and sends them right back out (after some limited testing). So, you may be getting a product that someone else returned as failed and you could experience the same issues. I would much rather pay an additional $10-$25 and get a virgin drive from a physical storefront where I know I was the first person to receive the drive from the manufacturer and to purchase from a company who doesn't operate strictly as an online store front, so you can see what you are getting (whether the box was opened, repackaged, etc..)
