1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Garbage

Pros: Worked for 1 year and seven months and failed during the warranty period.

Cons: Failed after 1 year and seven months. The warranty replacement is a "certified refurbished drive". Will use said replacement as a paper-weight.

Other Thoughts: My last ever Seagate product.

5 out of 5 eggsAlright Hard Drive

Pros: Still going strong. Does what it's supposed to.

Cons: Only knock I have with it is the 5900 RPM. Got it in a combo deal, so didn't have much choice.

Other Thoughts: Ended up using as an external drive. Perfect for that.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent price, decent storage.

Cons: After two years of use, it just crapped out. Not the worst drive I've ever had, not the best either.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: I only had 800Gb on the drive, so it wont take AS long to recover.

Cons: Died after 17 months. It had a bit of a wobble which I didnt take as enough of a warning. Then it just started tweeting like a bird and gave up the ghost. Only 800gb to restore.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 hard disks in the machine that are 3 and 5 years old, 17 months is garbage.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Barracuda S1500DL003

Pros: It was quiet right up until it quit working and then pitiful squeaking started.

Cons: Worked for one year and one month before it just died with no warning. I have never had a hard drive fail that quickly before. I have a gaming tower so cooling should not be the problem. Moderate use, I had used about half of the drive space.

Other Thoughts: A new hard drive should last more than 13 months

4 out of 5 eggsAn alright drive.

Pros: It's not a bad drive for storage. Just keep in mind that it's 5900 RPM, but it does its job nonetheless.

Cons: It's kind a slow drive, so bare that in mind if you ever plan to put any programs, games, or even videos.

4 out of 5 eggsGood and bad at the same time

Pros: Its big (storage wise) for the price

Cons: Look I get saving the planet and all but did we really need to start with my hard drive? I dislike the power saver feature that I cannot seem to disable.

2 out of 5 eggsDrive Error After 7 Months

Pros: *Energy Savings
*Plenty of Space

Cons: *Takes 1-2 seconds to spin up if you haven't used it for a few minutes. The wait can be annoying sometimes. That's the tradeoff you make for the energy savings.
*After 7 months of ownership and relatively light use, I started getting an error that is telling me that the drive is failing, at least according to the top 5-10 Google hits I found. The error appears every time that my computer boots up. Here is the error text:
"SATA 6G 1: ST1500DL003-9VT16L
S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup and Replace"
The drive hasn't failed yet. But if the posts I read online are correct, then it's only a matter of time. That disappoints me because I was hoping that this drive would last me a couple of years.

Other Thoughts: Having an energy efficient drive is great, but if it doesn't last, then why bother?

I'm not sure why I'm getting the error that I have been getting. Maybe I got a bad unit. Maybe it's something I did and didn't realize. We had a power outage once -- maybe that was it, although I do have my system hooked up to a decent surge protector. Who knows.

I'm pretty sure I haven't misused the drive. I've just been using it as a secondary drive for storing music and pictures and things. It's a 1.5TB drive, and I'm only using about 150GB of that space, if that gives you any indication of how much I've been using it.

In any case, I'm not buying another one. Next time, I am going to go with a drive with better reviews.
