4 out of 5 eggsGreat little portable HDD

Pros: -Removable controller.
If your controller dies. You can remove the controller and you have a SATA power + data connector.

-USB 2.0 & USB 3.0

Cons: -A bit bulky
-Plastic material=thermal insulation= not good.

Other Thoughts: - People who complain about proprietary connector... it's not. It's called SATA. Inside EVERY computer theres SATA.

-Unreliable Cable... Some applications don't send the message to keep-alive the drive. That's why your files are freezing.

Do you homework and stop being lazy.

2 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Size (1TB), Single port USB powered

Cons: This device was extremely unreliable upon arrival. Connecting the device to any USB port, whether 2.0 or 3.0, connected it at first without issues. After about a minute or two of connectivity it would disconnect and reconnect rapidly. This occurred more often if I attempted to transfer to and from the device. This made it impossible to copy anything larger than about 10mb at a time due to it repeatedly disconnecting. Updating/reinstalling the drivers did not resolve the issue. I was able to replicate the problem without fail on 3 Windows 7 workstations (2 64bit, 1 32bit).

Other Thoughts: Upset that I had recently RMA'd 2 other products the day before fully testing this, I decided to give it another chance. I opened the enclosure to remove the internal drive. The Seagate device that I received contained a Samsung ST1000LM024 2.5" drive. I decided to install this in a workstation (as I needed a hard drive anyway) and it now works flawlessly. I didn't have to reformat, just connect to the motherboard and power on. This device has not disconnected a single time since doing this. In light of this, I can only assume that the USB attachment that came with the device is incredibly faulty, but that the drive itself is reliable.

Seagate: Thumbs Down
Samsung: Thumbs Up

5 out of 5 eggsIt's fine

Pros: Small, easy to carry, fast, good price point
My cable was secure and video played smoothly

Cons: nothing so far

Other Thoughts: I actually have an older model: STAA1000101
I wanted to give negative reviews some perspective.
This cable is NOT proprietary! It uses a micro USB 3.0 cable, it is a new standard(but not that new). You can use an older USB 2.0 micro USB cable, but it will only be USB 2.0 speeds. You can use the included cable to plug into a regular size USB 2.0 port also. You can buy new 3.0 cables, but they will not work in cell phones. The full-size connector is backwards compatible, the micro-size one is not.

1 out of 5 eggsprobllems with USB connection

Pros: 1TB, USB powered, back-up software.

Cons: This would be a great little drive if not for the unreliable connection via the strange (proprietary?) connector on the device. My PC sounds like a pin-ball machine as the drive mounts and unmounts itself repeatedly. I have yet to find a position in which the drive will stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. USB 3.0 is fast but you cannot do a complete back-up of any size with this degree of flakiness.

I bought it to move files between linux systems at home and work. After a few minutes of pin-ball on that OS, it gave up and reported that I needed to fix it using a PC (the format is NTFS). I am in the process of doing that now. Interestingly, although the activity light is off and the USB connection is lost from time to time, the "Check Disk" operation appears to continue in spite of it.

Other Thoughts: ...looking for RMA instructions.

3 out of 5 eggsloose USB cable

Pros: got it for a good price

Cons: Included usb 3.0 cable is loose and is very picky.
I mainly use this to play video files on my laptop, and about every 5 minutes the video freezes for a few seconds(on both usb 2.0 and 3.0 + on two other laptops and a desktop) and then resumes, as you can imagine this is extremely annoying!
I tried going into computer management, then under USB Controllers, and under power management I unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but this did not do anything. I also bought another USB 3.0 cable that fixed the issue of the cable being loose, but also did not fix the issue I have with it freezing while playing movies.

Other Thoughts: I am not happy at all with this product.
