Pros: Easy setup...wish it would connect with wireless network without having to take additional steps and firmware updates to do so. Has potential. Three (3) year warranty.

Cons: Work around for iPads...having to disable WIFI to connect. Charge dissipates fast when more than one device is connected. Cannot transfer files over wireless, you can only play from the device to include pictures.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: - Newest software update allows more than 3 devices
- 500 GB of storage
- Wireless access to your videos/music etc
- Will work with 3rd party players for nonstandard movie formats (ie DViX)

Cons: - I bit cumbersome to set up
- Not a great WiFi access point.
- To use this HD wirelessly, your device must connect to it as if it was connecting to WiFi access point.
- If you are done using the device, you must reconnect to your regular Wi-Fi.
- I did experience occasional dropouts.

Other Thoughts: Do this first:
- Download the newest firmware, place it in root of GoFlex drive, turn off the device, turn on the device. Let it flush new firmware. You will gain get more stable device. One I upgraded

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: works well with all variety of Windows, Android & Apple OS and apps; excellent battery life; ease of setup & operation; more-than-ample storage capacity; wireless-N

Cons: for DIY hackerz: difficult to pry-open the case to upgrade the hard-drive within to SSD

Other Thoughts: Although I bought this, originally, to scavenge the 500gb hard-drive (due to the item being cheaper on-sale at the Egg than the bare drive) for replacement of a failed drive in one of my laptops, I found the unit works well as a WLAN streaming router (as designed). Length of battery charge is greatly enhanced (more than 3x) by replacing the HDD with an SSD. Works well, as designed, with all Windows, Apple & Android OS & apps that I have tried, so far. Streams HD movies to my smart-TV OK!

5 out of 5 eggsGoFlex

Pros: This Seagate GoFlex is awesome! I wanted something that I could use with my Apple iPad, Sony S Tablet, Ipod Touch etc. I did a lot of reading on line and research on what was out there. The Seagate GoFlex seemed pretty good and when it went on sale here I figured I would jump on it and give it a go.. Well needless to say it does what it says it will and then some! I cant be happier. I was able to uninstall and make more space on my tablets which helped free up a lot of space. This thing is flawless..

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsLooking forward for a better firmware

Pros: An easy way to extend your device's media storage.

I like the product.

Cons: Some issues with the software (see below). Let's hope the next firmware will fix those.

Other Thoughts: Hardware:
Wireless range - less than 30 feet. But that's enough if used on a car trip.
Battery life - about 2 hours if listening to music. But the device could charge and stream in the same time.

Software:
The Seagate iOS app fails to browse into folders named with non-latin letters.
The DLNA server starts re-indexing every time the device is turned on - a long-lasting operation with constant disk spin. That drains the battery. And the long wait is inconvenient if you use a DLNA client instead of the Seagate app.

2 out of 5 eggsOnly ok - reflected by the price plummetting

Pros: Cheap.

Battery powered.

Cons: Not very well executed.

Not suitable for biz use.

Other Thoughts: It's just ok.

Biggest fail is the inability to do wpa2 enterprise authentication.

That means our sale people cannot connect to the device, then connect through it to an internet connection.

It's a little annoying that streaming is disabled when the device is attached via usb, but I can imagine why they took the easy route.

I saw this discounted down to $88 at a local pc shop while picking up some supplies, so I grabbed it as an impulse buy.

Another item to add to the "Cool device, Bro" pile.

4 out of 5 eggsFurther notes on earlier review

Pros: Still working.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: For those that are wanting to stream to a lot of devices: Think bandwidth. The hardware can only support so much data being transferred at once. So... if you have 4 kids as I do, sample your movies at low bit-rates and frame rates, or match the iPod Touch 3rd gen video rates and you won't have any issues streaming to at least 4 devices. I've played movies on a laptop, an iPhone 5, an iPod touch (3rd gen), and an iPad mini - all at the same time.

If you want more - I saw that Silicon Power boasts their unit can stream to 10 devices all at once.

I am still very pleased with this unit.

2 out of 5 eggsSeagate GoFlex 500GB Wireless Storage - Just OK

Pros: - USB 3.0
- Wireless 2.4GHz
- Compact
- Has Both a Charger and can charge off a USB Port
- Software Interface works great with Apple Products.

Cons: - Cannot Broadcast Wireless Signal while charging from a USB.
- Cannot Broadcast Wireless Signal while using USB Interface. This means that you cannot use the device as a wireless hotspot.
- Interface program is VERY POOR for using with Android, or Windows OS.
- DOES NOT allow Streaming of 3 Seperate Media files Simultaneously as Advertized. It keeps Hanging up with just 1 stream to an Android Tablet!
- 500GB in Today's World of Media is not a lot. 1TB or larger would be better.
- Wireless Signal Strength is Low.
- Battery Life is nowhere near 7 Hours as advertized.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this device to provide capacity and media streaming for an Android tablet (Toshiba Thrive). At the time I purchased it from Newegg, this was the only device that I found to connect wirelessly to the Android tablet. Seagate Advertizing and videos claim that this is easy and the GoFlex device would allow "Simultaneous Streaming of Three Different Videos to Seperate Devices". This is definitely NOT TRUE. After downloading the software to allow the Tablet to connect to the drive, I attempted to stream an MP4 video on the tablet using the wireless connection. It did work if the drive was within 0.6 meters (approx. 2 feet) of the tablet. If the drive was further away than that, the signal strength was low enough that the streamed video would hang-up or lose connection.

I tried putting a Laptop on one side of the drive and the Android Table on the other side then simultaneously streaming two seperate MP4 Videos, one to each device. Even when the drive was within 0.3 meters (approximately 1 ft.) of the tablet and laptop, the videos would continuously hang-up or just not play at all.

The user interface (App) for Android and Windows OS is "Clunky", at best. The App is downloaded from the website in a reasonably straight forward fashion. Implementing and using the software requires that you have to open and use the software in a Browser window. I tried I.E.10, Firefox ver 21, and Firefox for Android OS. The software works "just ok" with a Windows OS and an Intel I-3 processor (2.5 GHz), or better. The 1GHz processor and Android OS/Firefox for Android browser combination definitely struggled with this software. It was just inadequate. Hopefully, Seagate will revise, and improve that software.

I tried this same test with an Apple iPad (Gen 3) and an iPhone (Gen 4). The software interface is an order of magnitude better with the Apple products. You do not have to open a browser to interact with the software, the App is stand-alone and works very smoothly. I was able to simultaneously stream 2 separate videos - one to the iPad, the other to the iPhone. Three separate videos would not work.

The HDD itself must only be a 5400 rpm drive and/or SATA 1. I was never able to achieve any greater transfer speed over the USB 3.0 interface than 60MB/sec. (The connecting drive was a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, 64MB cache). I tried the same test with the same file over the same interface using two of the Seagate Barracuda drives and measured transfer rates Averaging 120MB/sec. 60MB/sec is still adequate to load Media files.

HDD capacity of 500GB is marginal in todays world. 1TB is now available from Seagate at a much higher cost.

In conclusion, this is a fairly decent device if you own Apple products. If you have Android or Windows phones or Tablets, I cannot recommend this unless you are willing to put up with the hassle and are tech savvy.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing - Delivers as promised

Pros: It actually does what is says it is supposed to do.

Small, lightweight
Seemingly good construction and overall feel
Super speed USB 3 movie transfers
Comes with a friggin' car adapter - that's cool!

Seagate doesn't provide garbage conversion software.

Cons: You need to have your movies already converted to a format that is device friendly first. (and named accordingly - see the sample videos as a guide) But I would not want Seagate to convert anything. (which is a pro)

Be patient with Seagate's website when looking for your firmware update - it's there, you just have to be diligent. (Think Samsung and Sony)

Other Thoughts: Connect your oldest device first. Connect all devices before you begin streaming something.

I've streamed to an iPhone 5 and a 3rd Gen iPod Touch thus far, simultaneously, different movies.
