1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Good price, easy install

Cons: Died just after 90 days, noisy

Other Thoughts: Not worth buying refurbished, spend the extra to get new. Looked up more reviews after it died, turns out these drives are known to die, sometimes as quickly as a month. My bad for not realizing where the noise was coming from sooner, warning me of failure.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Original Post

Pros: Replacement Drive for DOA worked great

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is just to update that the new replacement drive came in and it worked just fine. Getting bad equip. is always a chance but I've seen it in new parts as well as refurbished. that is why the final rating is 4 eggs only because of the original DOA.

1 out of 5 eggsRefurbished: Seagate Barracuda ES ST3750640NS 750GB

Pros: None

Cons: DOA - The drive came in dead bios in 3 different computers said the drive didn't exist and there is a clicking sound coming from the drive like the heads are hitting against track stop 0.

Other Thoughts: requested a RMA and will try a replacement too see if I can get one that works. Will update when new drive comes in.

1 out of 5 eggsKaka in a case

Pros: Well it's shiny, I guess.

Cons: DON"T BUY THIS DON"T BUY THIS DON"T BUY THIS DON"T BUY THIS DON"T BUY THIS! Don't buy Refurbished in general actually! The first one I bought was loud as all hell, Sounded like gears grinding during start up and every time you saved something on it. Not only that it took forever to load things up. Like the drive was dragging its feet to get things done. By the way did I mention how loud this thing is? It's very loud, like I can hear it from my room to the kitchen loud. So I asked for a replacement, since I figured this one was gonna die soon(probably not in that 30 day period, But still), Which by the way 30 days isn't enough time for defects in electronics to show up 60 days should be the min. and also why do I have to pay S+H on a defective product you sent? Feels like a cheap sucker punch to me. Any how Newegg got to it licky split and replaced it with another hardrive with the exact same problem. Does anybody actually test this kaka? Or does Seagate just shovel it out the door after a glance and a "Looks good" Why are they so LOUD. Why do they take forever to startup, save, or open a program. Why does this product suck so hard? Come on guys is it really that hard to fix a product ya built yer'self? *steps off soapbox*

Other Thoughts: Should've bought new

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Shiny

Cons: DOA. Item i got was scratched to death and wouldn't work. Had it in an external hard drive bay and all it did was beep and click like it was trying to make its own music.

Other Thoughts: Beware of refurb drives. I learned my lesson.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked

Pros: It works

Cons: Started making clicking/chirping noises just after return period. Had to buy a new HDD to make sure I didn't lose all my data... It is now a "backup" so it hardly gets used, which is the only reason it gets 2 eggs.

Other Thoughts: Thats what I get for buying refurbished.

1 out of 5 eggsNo worth it at these prices!!!! Big Risk!!!

Pros: Cheap at first glance, but really not since you are taking a big risk with them.

Cons: Very unreliable and no warranty past the 30 day return policy. If you get one of these be sure to test it thoroughly as soon as you get it. Then you are still taking a big chance if it will last or not. Wouldn't buy one again, since I have an expensive paperweight. Shame on Newegg for selling these without making it clear there is no warranty of any kind on these.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable RAID Drives

Pros: I have built two file servers and both of them are using this drive in a RAID 5 array. The older server has run with no issues for three years, so far. Neither server has yet failed a drive. All of the drives are 'refurbished'. Barracuda ES drives are meant for this kind of service. Their performance bears this out. Reliable drives.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: These 'refurbished' drives are good-as-new, maybe better than new. My belief is that they get a really thorough testing after they are rebuilt. The evidence of their reliable performance argues that it is equal to or better than the final testing of new drives.
