3 out of 5 eggsNot for critical storage

Pros: cheap, good performance

Cons: reliability

Other Thoughts: Cheap, good performing HD, but be careful. I bought 3 for a RAID 5 system, figuring that having redundancy would make up for the uncertainty of a refurbished drive. After 410 days of mostly on 24/7 service, one of the drives failed with a clicking noise. The other 2 drives seem to be working with the RAID in limp mode, but I took down the RAID while my new non-refurbished drives come in.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate Barracuda ST3750528AS

Pros: 32MB Cache and 698GB of Storage. Drive is very quiet, and reliable. The best drive I have owned and I wish they still made them..

Cons: After about 1 1/2 years it developed 4 bad sectors.
and 2 years after it developed those 4 bad sectors, it has tripled to 12 bad sectors.

Other Thoughts: as of 08/14/13 this drive has 12 bad sectors and is laying with 81% health and 100% performance according to the smart readings. I will definitely buy more seagate drives, just not their Barracuda line. The barracudas are becoming cheaper and cheaper. Reliability is just not showing in most newer models.. it's a shame. This drive has taken a beating, I am on my computer most of every day, downloading things and playing video games.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow Your Gut

Pros: Looked nice.

Cons: Was dead on arrival. Popped it into my desktop and the motherboard didnt recognize it. Took the product to geek squad at best buy and they agreed with me that it was dead on arrival. Good stuff guys. Good stuff

Other Thoughts: With main computer parts like hard drives, processors, mobos, just spend the money. Refurbished is rubbish.

2 out of 5 eggslasted 2 months

Pros: Fast drive, came right up when I got it.

Cons: Failed after 2 months. Ran it in an eSATA caddy and it would not recognize any more. Removed from caddy and plugged into motherboard SATA3 port, BIOS recognizes the drive, but says it is only 320Gig. I need reliability for my VMs, this is not the drive.

1 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: It came in a box.

Cons: Everything else. Second one came just as jacked up as the first.

Other Thoughts: QC is missing at Newegg, HP sticker still on the drive when I took it out of the box. This one at least spins as the read head drags itself across the disk.

3 out of 5 eggsDon't Trust w/ valuable data

Pros: Low cost solution w/ decent capacity. Able to run in RAID for decent performance.

Cons: I hate paying money for out of date hardware. These drives are SATA II (3.0GB/s). But, I running this drive in RAID with a matching HDD that I already have.
1st one I ordered was slow and dragging. Seatools repaired it. Dead 3 hours later.
2nd one is still going in RAID 0 but cannot flash to latest firmware.
Transfer rates are slower than my original matching drive.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive as a replacement in a RAID 0 configuration that is used for 30+GB video compression which is very HDD intensive over long time periods. I like for my HDDs in a RAID to all be on the same firmware. But these drives are locked w/ an older firmware and cannot be flashed to the newest firmware.
Make sure you have files backed up and I would not reccommend using one of these drives as your "MAIN" drive.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots of storage romm for the price.

Cons: Refurbished can be unreliable.

Other Thoughts: I was unable to give as a high a rating in the past. This hard drive was (or was supposed to have been) part of an order of other components to build a computer for a customer. Someone at NewEgg packaged and sent the completely wrong item. NewEgg RMA'd it for me, but it was a delay. Finally got the correct item in, and no sooner had I installed Windows on it the hard drive crashed. To their credit they sent out a replacement very quickly. This hard drive doesn't click or clack, but it is a bit "rumbly." But, it is working...so far.
