1 out of 5 eggsRampant Seagate Failures

Pros: None... Although they do keep RMA'ing them when they fail..

Cons: I've had three Seagate 1TB drives fail in the last year. The first was Dec 2012 (RMA), the second February 2013 (RMA), the last today... April 2013. Thankfully I have these drive in a mirrored RAID, so the WD drive is whats still running. I'm not even going to bother RMA'ing this as the drive they send back won't last for more than a few months and I have to pay the shipping so it's more expensive than buying a new WD...

Other Thoughts: I also had a ST3500413AS 500gb drive that has been through two rounds of RMAs. After the last failure about two months ago I gave up on it as well.

1 out of 5 eggsdead after 3 months

Pros: none

Cons: Don't waste $50. This is dead with lots of bad sectors after a couple of months of occasional usage. I had to RMA the first one, but am not eligible to RMA this one since it's past 30 days. If you like to gamble and buy one of these, do a thorough harddrive test before using.

Other Thoughts: buying refurbished harddrives is always a gamble. I bought it to supplement a backup system, but it got incorporated into a core build because I forgot it was refurbished.

1 out of 5 eggs"Reliable" my foot

Pros: None

Cons: Junk. Error after error. Seagate doesn't know what decent customer support is. I usually buy WD, and should have done so this time.

Despite the problems the drive is having, Seagate's own software keeps pronouncing the drive as "good", when it is most assuredly not. Reallocated Sectors Count is at 36, and the drive clicks and makes other noises. It's now a paperweight, and Seagate will never get my business again.

Other Thoughts: See above.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this as a replacement for another drive of the same brand. Can't really say much about performance as I have nothing to compare it to, but it does what it's supposed to do for a relatively low price.

Cons: No cons. It works.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 12 hrs

Pros: Great price

Cons: Bought this as a backup data storage tool. It lasted 12hrs before it tore itself apart. Its ckt board gets extremely hot and the drive itself is very noisy. Windows recognized a drive problem with S.M.A.R.T.. Tried to run SeaTools and the drive gave up all together.

Other Thoughts: I wish newegg had minus eggs because that's what this 1tb SEGATE drive deserves.

1 out of 5 eggsNot just bad... Fraudulent

Pros: Works... for now

Cons: I bought three of these, and this is my third bad review.

Seagate is getting a bad rap here. This isn't their fault, it's the fault of the third part that reconditioned the drives.

This drive is not just risky, error-prone, and slow... it's fraudulent. SMART data shows a different model than advertised!!

It's shameful how horrible this item is. NewEgg is great, Seagate is great. ecom-direct should be fired.

I've bought many Seagate factory certified repaired HDDs with minimal issues, this item is not the same. BEWARE!

1 out of 5 eggsJust buy used

Pros: If you are looking for a inexpensive drive you should buy a used one.
The chances of these drives going bad is much higher then if you get a drive with 30,000 hours on it.

Think about it.
Which would you rather have.

A hard drive that has already gone bad once?
Or one that has lots of hours and no problems?

Cons: It already failed once.

2 out of 5 eggsLas Vegas Draw Poker

Pros: When good; very good.

Cons: When bad; horrible.

Other Thoughts: Purchased three 2.5 mos. ago. Two seem to be working fine; the third sounds like the maraca player from a Mariachi band has taken up residence in the HD. If you tend to draw on inside straights, go for it.
