3 out of 5 eggsDurability concerns

Pros: I filled this driver with everything I could and never made it 1/2 way. Overall speed of the drive was good, not great but I didn't feel like it was unbearably slow... at first anyway.

Cons: I will admit, I use my PC a lot, in that I prefer to game / be online during my free time rather than veg in front of a TV. However after just under 2 years of use it seemed like this drive was already showing its age. Loading speeds were slower on everything from boot to just a browsing session. This compared to the WD harddives I had before (they were replaced due to capacity needs) would last a solid 3 years plus and were still ticking. I still have a WD raptor from 2006 that was still functioning very will when I replaced it.

Other Thoughts: For large storage this is a good drive, if you just want to save tons of files / photos/ docs.
For gaming, I would look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: 1TB capacity, 32MB Cache, overall the drive is pretty quiet, runs cool. SMART data for my "refurbished" hard drive only showed about 18 hours of time powered on, which I thought was awesome, sometimes you never know when you're buying something that's not new

Cons: SATA 3Gb/s. 6Gb/s would be nicer. However, considering that mechanical hard drives can't even saturate the SATA II 3Gbps link, I guess this really isn't a con.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these when they were on special for $45 a piece, and feel like I got the deal of the year. I only wish I would have had about $500 extra when ordered them, or whatever the limit was per customer! Anyway, I'm sure it's an average drive at it's normal $99 price point, and there may be better drives out there, but at the time it fit exactly what I needed for about half of what I intended on spending

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY! TOTAL GARBAGE! NO WARRANTY!

Pros: None!

Cons: The hard drives die within 3-6 months period. You can NOT claim warranty through Seagate. Because these are OEM drives therefore has to go to the original OEM... I purchase 5 drives and ALL of them died within 6 months running in raid 6, then raid 5, then raid 1... This is garbage... I repeat do NOT buy this... NewEgg really knows their way of selling items..., they did not mention these were OEM drives and cannot be processed through Seagate..

1 out of 5 eggsJim...He's Dead!!

Pros: It was on sale after a period when larger capacity HDs were in limited supply and as a result, high in price.

Cons: This was purchased about 8 months ago. It saw light duty, perhaps only 12 hours of total use. The computer started being very slow on mounting and reading USB devices but it did otherwise boot and run programs. Abruptly one morning, the MB BIOS passes notice that S.M.A.R.T. has failed on this HD and will not boot. There was no prior warning from the BIOS that the HD was getting flaky. HD clicks a few times when power is applied. Testing with other computers shows it is the HD and not the MB.

Other Thoughts: This was the 2nd Seagate 1T HD I purchased after flooding in Thailand disrupted HD manufacturing. Now I have to wonder if that 1st one will abruptly die as well.

1 out of 5 eggsVery poor quality

Pros: 5 year warranty. And believe me, your going to need it!

Cons: Extremely High failure rate, and even higher failure rate on the refurbished drives you get back on a warranty replacement (100%).

Other Thoughts: I bought 8 of these for a raid array a few years back. I have been playing the swap game with Seagate ever since (about 5 years). One would die, I'd get a warranty replacement, it would die within a few months. multiply this x8 plus the replacements. I want to say I've done about 20 returns on these drives (at 10 a pop)

I would love to see Seagate make this right, and compensate me for the immense hassle.

2 out of 5 eggsDies quickly

Pros: The are cheap, I got them on sale for $50+useless microdrive. The microdrive was more of a curiosity than actually being useful.

Cons: Not reliable
Only a 3 month warranty.

Other Thoughts: So far it has been about 10 months. One of the drives failed, luckily I had then each as a copy of the other because I knew they would be unreliable. I don't know how long the second drive will last so I of course ordered a new drive immediately. Basically I got 10 months out of one and I'll update for the second. I would only recommend this drive if you don't need a reliable storage medium for a short period of time. I lost nothing since I had two backing each other up but If I didn't have a second backup I would be Angry. Still pretty unreliable drives if one failed that quickly. I have never had a hard drive fail on me before. EVER and I still use IDE drives from 1995 sometimes that run great.
