1 out of 5 eggsStay away from these drives

Pros: Was a good drive while it worked.

Cons: Failed on me a couple years back, completely bricked for no reason.

Warranty Replacement was a Refurb that only lasted a couple more years

Other Thoughts: I have lost all faith in Seagate as a storage solution company. If its not drives failing left and right, or poor performance/capacity for dollar, then its junk warranty periods.

I bought one of these a few years back, probably from Newegg but I can't remember. It decided to die on me one day, out of the blue. Poof, gone. Bricked.

Seagate warrantied it and then sent me a refurb. I should have known not to trust it back then, but now a couple years later the refurb is dying. I am desperately trying to copy off the data I have on it, while there is still time. But these are huge video project files so for all I know it will finally give out, or the files will be corrupted if I get any at all.

The drive won't even register on SATA ports. I had to hook it up to an external enclosure, and its only intermittent. Was shocked to see warranty expired, but not surprised.

Really Seagate, my first drive bricked - and not only do you send me a refurb instead of a new drive, you don't extend the warranty out on the "like new" replacement?

Cheap. Real cheap. Anyone remember when HDD's used to last for 10 years or longer?? I bet I could go dig an old 286 out of a flea market and pull a still working Seagate drive out of it.

Maybe there really IS a reason they retired the Barracuda family of drives....

5 out of 5 eggsSo nice I bought it twice.

Pros: The drive does it's job and hasn't given me a single problem. when it filled up, I went and bought another model of the same exact model to expand to. I might even buy a third just to get my 3TB storage cap for windows.

I store my games on the HDDs and my OS on an SSD and the games play seamlessly across drives. I can even stream them to other computers on the network with no issue.

Cons: none really. Not as fast as an SSD, but still reliable.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed instantly

Pros: Cheap, but a gamble.

Cons: Mine failed in exactly one month. Now to try and get Seagate to RMA it.

Other Thoughts: If you need a reliable drive this is not it.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid if you value your data and time

Pros: Pricing can be lower than other options

Cons: I bought one of these drives as part of a rig I was building. Within a few months I saw a large number of errors and then the dreaded "imminent drive failure" message. Luckily it was still under warranty so I replaced it via Seagate. The new (really refurb) drive lasted another 8 months before it too failed. However this one failed in a much more dramatic fashion, going from 5-6 sector errors to suddenly >200. No further warranty replacement was offered by Seagate as I was now out of the warranty period.

My WD drives that I purchased alongside the Seagate are still humming along.

Other Thoughts: Seagate used to be a good reliable brand for hard drives but it doesn't appear that way any longer. I'm avoiding the brand completely going forward.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive failure

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: I installed this drive as an upgrade to A Vista machine. Drive had loaded Win7 for about a 10 days when the error " Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace" appeared. All attempts to recover the drive and reformat the drive failed. The Drive sent to me was refurbished and has a Warranty Expiration 04-Jul-2014 . I'm a little disappointed the the drive was refurbished (certified repaired HDD) and not new. I'm trying to resolve the issue with Seagate since the original packaging has been disposed of.

Other Thoughts: Totally bummed out
