5 out of 5 eggsEnterprise = longer life 'on average'

Pros: we've used many SG Ent drives here for both our corporate data/NAS use and in the numerous IP DVR video security sytem storage arrays we have in operation.
i think the expectation from many is that everything lasts forever and nothing ever goes bad. seriously?
we've had our fails/write errors in these drives but the frequency of them is far less than for typical desktop quality drives which have both a lower duty cycle and a shorter life expectancy.
that's why we use extensive RAID and duplication of drives and expect to stock a few spares to plug in as any of the primary drives go South on us.
and that happens.
the engineering studies show a normal curve on how they last with a few early life mortality drives, more as the drives age, and then less as the last ones reach the end of the MTBF model they use.
we're a satisfied Seagate user.
i've even gone so far as to spec them in desktop applications for people i know are really hitting their drives with data like our CAD and DB staff seem to do constantly.

Cons: they are pricey!

Other Thoughts: newegg has the best stuff.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: I'm using it in an eSATA enclosure with my HR20 DVR.

with it my DVR has been more responcive than before and with the ton of space I haven't even filled it yet.
It works fine, and exacly as I wanted it to.

Cons: Cost.

Other Thoughts: If you want a drive for a DVR and you want to be sure it'll be good running 24/7 this drive works great.

1 out of 5 eggsDies after a week

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Died after 10 days.

Other Thoughts: Put this in my computer as a media storage drive. All seemed good for a while but it died after 10 days. Going to try and RMA with Seagate, but I don't think I'll be using this model drive again.

1 out of 5 eggsConstellation 2TB - Poorest Reliability and Highest Price

Pros: None compared to the Barracuda in my case

Cons: Purchased from Newegg in December '11, and started receiving the "S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD - Backup and Replace" message after about 2 1/2 months use.
Luckily for me, this HDD is in RAID1 with a 2TB Barracuda, so my data are safe, but I purchased the Constellation specifically because it is supposed to have "commercial, enterprise" level reliability.
Obviously, based on my experience in this case, the Constellation was a clear waste of money. Wish I had installed two Barracudas instead.

Other Thoughts: It was a probably flawed strategy to spend a lot of money on one of the HDDs that was part of a RAID configuration. RAID provided the data security. The enterprise quality Constellation HDD did not.

5 out of 5 eggs16 in production a year, no failures

Pros: Fast and reliable.

Cons: Warranty only 3 years, versus 5 for WD and some others.

Other Thoughts: I bought 16 of these for my company (from another vendor; I use Newegg for my personal purchases). We deployed 8 into each two Promise VessRAID 1840i chassis. They've been in production for just over a year, running as an iSCSI SAN for an environment consisting of VMware ESXi, Linux, Solaris, and mainframe systems.

We have had zero failures, and on our multipathed GigE network the bottleneck for performance is still the network and not the drives.

I'm about to build a home NAS appliance from parts, and even though it's for personal use, I probably will spring the extra cash for a set of these drives because I've been really pleased with them at work.

Enterprise grade drives are worth the money if you need the best long-term reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Only 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s Enterprise Class HDD on the Market

Pros: I have been extremely happy with these HDDs. I have two in RAID 1. I have never had any issue with these HDDs or with them in my RAID array, and I have had them for almost half a year now.

Constellation ES is highest series of HDDs in the Seagate line-up. It is an enterprise class (EC) HDD, sometimes referred to as RAID spec'd or server class. Only Seagate offers a 2TB EC HDD that is SATA 6.0Gb/s. EC HDDs have a faster system response time that is often needed for RAID arrays, are typically higher quality, and designed to withstand being on 24/7.

This HDD features a 64MB cache, and is fairly quiet. It is rated a little quieter than the Seagate Barracuda XT.

Here is a little bit of a comparison between Seagate Constellation ES HDDs which are EC and Seagate Barracuda XT's HDDs which are not EC:
-1,200,000 hours MTBF, compared to 750,000 hours MTBF of the Barracuda XT.
-147 MB/s sustained data transfer rate, compared to 138 MB/s of the Barracuda XT.

Cons: There is a significant price premium for enterprise class HDDs like these over comparable non-enterprise class HDDs, because they are higher quality, longer lasting, and have faster system response times. The faster system response times are often needed for RAID arrays so that no HDD falls out of the array.

Other Thoughts: I was using a pair of WD EC 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s HDDs for years in a RAID 1 that I was very happy with. I would have gone WD again, but only Seagate offers EC 2TB HDDs with SATA 6.0GB/s, so I went with a pair of these.

If you are going to use a RAID array, it is a huge time and headache saver to use EC HDDs. Non-EC HDDs often will fall out of the array due to system response times that are not fast enough.

I bought two of these many months ago, well before Newegg offered them for sale. So I won't have the verified owner mark on this review.
