5 out of 5 eggs1 year still working good

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good write / Read speeds

Cons: It's not free, Free would have got 5 eggs and bacon, but nope, just 5 eggs. Who the hell eats 5 eggs?

Other Thoughts: Adding the same drive to do a raid. Don't pick just because of reviews alone, when picking a device online, look at the warranty.

Most people like my self never ever review anything unless it fails, If it works they use it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood storage drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I bought this drive for my home server which also serves as an HTPC. I had a 1 TB HD in it for a few years but like everyone has experienced who is looking at this you do manage to fill that space up somehow. There were options with more storage available at the time, but for the price this was a best match.

Install was easy, just like any other drive. I’ve now had it running 24/7 in my home server as the primary storage drive for a bit under a year with no issues. Performance is good, I regularly max out my gig network when doing file transfers and have had no issues with response time or the drive taking a while to spin up after not being used for a while.

Cons: If I had to list a con I guess its that It’s a spinning drive so you will get that level of performance. Being spoiled by using SSDs I occasionally have to remind myself that spinner performance is totally acceptable. I’m not sure I would use it for a system drive but hopefully you would know that already.

Other Thoughts: A solid storage drive, especially at this current price. If you need more space than this affords consider a RAID using these drives, I bet that would work well.

5 out of 5 eggsThey work

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The drives work as listed. I've had no problems with them. I have bought 5 of these drives over the past year for different builds I have done. None of them have failed on me so far, and they are very well priced.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive, great price.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good drive, lots of space for a HTPC and good price point.

Cons: I had to play around with DISKPART a bit to format the drive and set it active. After that the install was very smooth and gave me no issues. No noises as some have complained. My HTPC is in fact completely silent.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT!! No Issues!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Nice bang for your TB buck!

I put them in a RAID-0 config and am getting follow R&W speeds using CrystalDiskMark.

R: 329.7 MBs
W: 296.1 MBs

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I ordered 2x of these drives on 11/30/2014 and they have not been powered off since the date and time of this post. 1/11/2015. No issues at all. I am unsure why some people have problems but it may also be user error and nothing with the drives.

These 2x2TB drives are in a RAID-0 to create a 4TB data storage. The storage backs up to a 4TB external drive in case of failure of a drive for restore. The reason I chose RAID0 is for speed as it is more important than redundancy for my needs.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - FAST
- No DOA drives (knock on wood)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've now installed 8 of these drives in multiple builds and had no issues. These read and write at an impressive 200MB/s as individual drives, and that performance starts as low as 64k.

Three of these in a RAID 5, on an X79 chipset, benchmark well over 300MB/s read & write (don't forget to enable write-back cache in RSTe). After full initialization & verification in RSTe, squeaky clean on the RAID sets in both machines.

The bang for the buck on these are great. Any good builder will tell you "back your data up!" because you never know when ANY HDD is gonna fail. I recommend these to everyone.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed a slow death

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price but really there are none when it fails.

Cons: A slow death to complete failure just after warranty was up. Corrupted files and massive amounts of Raw Read Error Rate, as reported by Hard Disk Sentinel, have made this drive useless. Hard Disk Sentinel has been reporting large amounts of read error for some time now (about a year) but drive has passed Seagate's test all this time. No SMART warnings have show up for this drive but Hard Disk Sentinel has finely tripped to red with a warning. After failed imaging and failed file transfer from corrupted files on this drive, I have wasted over a week trying to salvage good files from this drive.

Other Thoughts: I used Seagate drives all the time when they had a 5 year warranty on them, they were very good. I stopped buying them when the warranty was cut and the bad reviews came. Some time passed and I thought Seagate must have fixed their problems by now, I was wrong. I have drives from every manufacture on my system and this Seagate drive is the only drive to show any errors in the Hard Drive Sentinel program and it is the only drive that I have that has corrupted files on it. The drive is not worth the trouble and there are no savings when it starts to fail. The drive still runs and I can write data to it but the data will most likely be corrupted or lost it this point. I will not be letting Seagate become my problem in the furture. When Seagate offers a 5 year warranty again, to prove to me they have some faith in what they build, I may consider purchasing from them again. As for now - STAY AWAY.

3 out of 5 eggsGiving them a second chance

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: low price for the storage capacity

Cons: I had some reliability problems causing windows 8 & 8.1 to have to repair the drive several times. It's difficult to tell if I lost any data or not...2 TB of files is a lot of files to search through

Other Thoughts: I wrote a review a few days ago about seeking a warranty replacement (1 star, upgrading to 3 stars, because I feel the issues I've been having might be related to Windows 8 and not the drives), but I first decided to try Seagate's Drive tools. After running all of the various tests and not finding any issues. I upgraded to the latest drive firmware...was able to do so without losing the files already on the drive. I've also turned off hibernation in Windows 8.1 (slower boot, but it seems more reliable). I also figured out some permission issues from the Windows 8 repair process...looks like I might not have lost any data. I have until April 2015 before the warranty runs out, so I'm going to put the two drives I own through some testing.

3 out of 5 eggsTwo years, 1 of 2 drives failed

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Bought two drives two years ago to put in my D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure.

Cons: After two years, one of the two drives failed just in enough time to do a warranty exchange with Seagate.

Other Thoughts: Luckily the NAS was RAID mirrored (as long as the other drive doesn't fail before I get the data copied onto the new one).
