5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: As Listed.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had my Seagate for over a year now. It is full of games now and i have had no problems with it. Mine is used all day everyday. I guess just try your luck and see if you can get yours to last like mine.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy these if you like to RMA drives all day!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap for a name-brand like Seagate

Cons: Bought 8 of these 2TB to upgrade our Desktops about 4 months ago. One failed within a week. RMA'd having to pay $12 to ship it to California. Had 2 more fail last week ( another $24 to ship since Seagates RMA states I cant ship two RMAs in same box!) Sent those out yesterday and just had ANOTHER one fail today! So that's a 50% failure rate out of 8 on these drives. Plus they don't have a local RMA center so I'm also out $50 in shipping. I'm sure I will have replaced all 8 within the year by this rate. I'm sure I'll have 8 paper-weights after warranty runs out.

Should also include I ordered 4 Dells for a friend's office, 2 of them had HDD failures last month, guess what drives they had! Seagate Barracudas! (1TB)

NEVER again Seagate.

Other Thoughts: Seagate burned me once about 10 years ago and I was strictly a WD guy. I had heard good things about Seagate and there was a discount on these so I bit. Boy did I learn my lesson.

5 out of 5 eggsNot a single error

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I have had this HDD for over 6months now, it didnt feel on me once. I do stock a lot of file on my HDD's and the average read/write speeds on this HDD are quite good

Cons: - I heared a noise once, but not so sure if it was fan or HDD, so it wasn't the HDD I'd say there's no cons

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable HDD

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Actually, none really.
I was going to say that it stores data, it's inexpensive, etc., but it's not really worth it.

Cons: They DO NOT LAST. I've been cycling through these like crazy. 3 fails in 2 months, 2 RMA to seagate, both failed again within a month... Terrible. Really bad. Please do not buy these, and tell seagate to stop producing them. Newegg, I'm asking you to stop carrying these drives. They're absolute garbage. I've had drives from 5 different lots, different production dates, all bad.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy these.

HGST looks like the best for longevity in this size range.

1 out of 5 eggsSave Your Money

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great for about 6 months...

Cons: They fail at too high a rate, without warning...

Other Thoughts: Used these (12) in a RAID-5 Array... One failed, and I put a replacement in, after ordering three more...
Couldn't rebuild the array, as another failed during the rebuild...
As someone else said, buy Western Digital...

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate = high failure rates

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: This is a risky purchase- these thing fail a LOT. I have a friend who was an engineer at Seagate and he told me (after my purchase) that I should've gone with WD. He was right. Mine was only used for media storage (not my primary drive) and died without warning two months outside the two-year warranty.

A recent article from an online cloud storage co. said the Seagates failed at alarming rates vs WD and HGST. They are using more than 12,000 of EACH brand simultaneously, so it's a pretty large scale observation and "luck of the draw" is essentially not a factor. They also noted that most Seagates died 2.2 years into service (conveniently, right after the warranty expires) and that's exactly how old mine was!

Seagate's 3TB drives had a failure rate of over 43%!

Other Thoughts: Most of the positive reviews state they've had no problems in the first year- but let's see how they feel a year from now... I spent the extra money on the WD Black (which has a 5 year warranty), because it's cheaper and less hassle in the end.

You may have much better luck than I did, but there's a reason why the Seagates are so much cheaper. When you factor in the higher performance and 3 year longer warranty (5 yrs vs 2) of WD, I think it's worth the extra dough.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like it says in the specs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The Price is good, same with Read/Write Speed considering it isn't a Solid State.

Cons: This Drive is Rated for 2400 Power on Hours... You cannot expect it to last more than the 100 Days it is rated for.
Read the data sheet.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a Hard drive that will last more than 100 days, this is not it!

5 out of 5 eggsDidn't even last 2 months

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Decent Price

Cons: Drive died within 2 months of use, replaced with a Western Digital 3TB that has been going for almost 3 years now.

Other Thoughts: Don't take the risk on this drive. Spend a little more or choose a different brand and get a more reliable drive. You'll regret not doing that when you loose TBs of data. If you must buy this drive make sure you make backups regularly!
