5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it needs to do

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: plug and play

Other Thoughts: Windows 10 users: if your new drive doesn't show up under this PC, left click the start button and select disk management. You will need to manually allocate the drive.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 3 years of use

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap hard drive storage option

Cons: The hard drive failed after 3 years of use, I am not the only one to experience this type of failure based on other reviews. There was no signs of failure before it occurred, no bad sectors, nothing abnormal. Then today it all of a sudden stopped being able to read or write to the disk, after a few restarts for trouble shooting, my BIOS no longer recognized the disk, effectively killing it.

5 out of 5 eggsBought 4 of these...

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - I bought four of these for my NAS and they are all performing 100%
- Honestly I would not go putting too much worry on this as seriously if they failed at all like how these people are saying I would have lost one by now and OH SNAP... I have not...

UPDATE:
Almost 4 years of use in my QNAP and I started getting notices about the smart test failure on one of the 4... Already looking at expanding the array with a expansion unit but for what I paid I got my moneys worth out of these bad boys

Cons: - None .. bought four and all four work

3 out of 5 eggsStrange Failures

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These drives worked well right out of the box. I purchased two and set them up in a linux md mirror and performed well. They were quiet and did not produce much heat. They almost made it to the 3 year mark of operation.

Cons: There are no cons for these drives except for a strange failure. Both drives died within two days of each other. The first one went down, but the mirror was ok. I was able to backup everything and then the 2nd drive went down the next day. The seatools program reported hard errors and they couldn't pass the long test. It was frustrating to say the least.

Other Thoughts: I'll might buy Seagate drives again, but always as a mirrored pair.

1 out of 5 eggsSame Ole Lame

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Purchased this hard drive in November 2013 and it failed two days ago, shortly after the warranty expired. Seagate use to mean something. I will now pay attention to the warranty offered, I suggest you do the same.
I used this drive for my operating system, luckily I saved my work on a different drive.

Cons: Warranty Sucks along with the hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend a Seagate Hard drive

4 out of 5 eggsIt's still in use over a year later.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Well priced, when I purchased it, and it's still running (quietly) in a home-based server that runs 24/7.

Cons: Seagate's reputation for reliability has taken a beating in the past couple of years (see reports at backblaze.com), but this drive is still OK, for me.

Other Thoughts: I agree with the recent report from backblaze.com and, though I'd love to buy Hitachi/HST drives for their reliability, their price is just too high. I mirror all my drives so failures don't cause information loss or too much inconvenience (and, of course, there's daily backups!).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

We are glad to read that your 2TB drive is working well for you.

We wanted to note that some of the Seagate drives used in the Backblaze study were not designed for use in a data center environment. It is important to match the right drive to the right workload.

We would like to note that for systems that are running 24/7, our NAS HDD would be better suited for your systems. Please reference the following link for additional details on this drive:

1 out of 5 eggsProduct failed

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap, and fast.

Cons: Hard drive failed after 2 1/2 years. This is really frustrating because I thought I was purchasing a good product after being a happy Seagate customer for years. This is enough to have made me lose confidence in the company and their quality of products.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend this product because early hard drive failure seems to be the norm. Save your money and lost memories.

5 out of 5 eggsDoing what it's supposed to.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -Huge capacity
-on the cheap
-fast

Worked right out the box.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: There's a lot of complaints about this drive failing after two years (or sooner), so I guess I'll keep an eye on it over the next 2 years and update my review if something changes.
