1One gigabyte, or GB, equals one billion bytes and one terabyte, or TB, equals one trillion bytes when referring to hard drive capacity. 2Seagate ships this drive in both 4K- and 512-byte sectors. SmartAlign technology is included on 4K sector drives. Both drives are functionally and physically equivalent.

  • newegg Reliable Performance Seagate Barracuda delivers every capacity point from 250GB to 3TB on full 7200-RPM, SATA 6Gb/s platform and includes a host of refined technologies to further boost performance. Seagate OptiCache technology further exploits big 64MB cache sizes and improved microprocessor capabilities, helping boost overall performance by as much as 45% over previous generation.
  • newegg Maximizes hard drive storage densities Barracuda 1TB-per-disk technology incorporates 340,000 unique tracks in the width of a single inch. This incredible storage density drives new capacity possibilities and lowers your total storage costs. Seagate AcuTrac technology enables new storage densities with accurate reading and writing to nano-sized tracks that are only 75 nanometers wide! That’s about 500 times smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.
  • newegg Green where it counts Barracuda desktop drives are produced using the most sophisticated manufacturing process in the industry, with a focus on environmental stewardship. Compliant with the RoHS and using less power, these hard drives not only save the world but also save your cost–without sacrificing performance.
  • newegg No-hassle transition to 4K sectors Are you worried about moving to Advanced Format 4K sector technology? You don’t have to be with Barracuda drives. Seagate SmartAlign technology makes this transition a snap: no utilities to run, and no extra integration steps to take up your time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: Very fast, only slightly slower than my SATA II ssd, which is still pretty blindingly fast. Extremely quiet.

Cons: well, its quiet until you really spin it up, and it gets only slightly less quiet.

Other Thoughts: great buy for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsWatch Compatibility

Pros: It works fine by itself.

Cons: It will not work as a mirror to conventional format hard drives. Windows Server 2013 spit it out.

3 out of 5 eggsGood product, but absolutely ZERO mfr product support.

Pros: Great HDD, is what is advertised (speed, capacity, etc.).

Cons: Absolutely ZERO product support. Website continually has 404 errors on attempting product related downloads, and attempts to contact Seagate product support on the website results in a no contact loop on final case submission page.

Other Thoughts: If for whatever reason you plan on/believe you need to do a firmware update.. forget it. Though the general manufacturer website is functional, with some generic hdd tool/manual downloads, you will be unable to obtain any hdd specific firmware. This has been an ongoing problem from MAR to current JUN 2013 date.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job, Great Reliable Stable HDD

Pros: It's really hard to make a pro list for an HDD, but for the price this is an excellent choice. It is a 7200 drive for the price of a 5400. Barracuda is a tried and true solid option for an HDD. I never doubt Seagate when it comes to HDD's.

Cons: It's just as hard to make a con list unless you have had problems with your drive, which I had none.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to replace a failing boot drive in my son's computer. I used some cloning software to copy the old drive to this one, and it has been running flawlessly for a few months.

This is an easy recommendation for a drive, especially for the price.

1 out of 5 eggsworse of the worse

Pros: i got it the next day.

Cons: the first thing i noticed was that it took forever to format it then after it finished every time i try to install a program or save some videos it crashes. i buy most of my stuff in newegg and i never had a problem with it but this just got me really mad.

Other Thoughts: i don't recommend nobody to buy this product its really a waste of money and time.

3 out of 5 eggsBatting 500

Pros: Inexpensive.

Cons: Bought two. One was DOA. Newegg was not gracious about warrantying it, but eventually they did send a replacement.

Other Thoughts: I can't buy hard drives from the internet retailers anymore. Newer hard drives from all brands are not reliable enough to justify the risk of return shipping, downtime, etc. I am going to buy locally where I have better return / exchange options. Newegg has been great, but I can tell they're trying to cut their losses dealing with warranty issues on junky drives. Their inspection department said I damaged the DOA drive even though I didn't. I have read of this situation in other drive reviews.

4 out of 5 eggs2 different part #'s

Pros: cheap. 6 cents per gigabyte.

passed the LONG Test in SeaTools for DOS and i zeroed the drive.

getting 100+ MB/s in windows explorer when copying/transferring files. i don't really care about synthetic benchmarks that won't occur in real world usage.

so far i haven't had any clicking/chirping noises. windows is installed on my ssd and this drive is being used as a secondary storage drive. i'm guessing this helps with the APM/head parking issues and they would be more prevalent if this was the primary drive with windows installed on it. more on this in cons.

Cons: i bought the drive because i was under the impression that the issues were resolved with the newest firmware CC48. my drive came with firmware version CC46 and i was unable to update it to CC48. the problem is the hdd i got is part # 1CH162 and seagate only offers firmware CC48 for part # 9YN164.

this begs a few question. whats the difference between the 2 part #'s? does part # 1CH162 have the same problems as part # 9YN164? if so why is seagate only offering firmware CC48 for part # 1CH162? if there is a difference why are they selling both part #'s under the same model #? so customers don't know what they are actually buying.

i tried asking these questions on the official seagate forums and surprise surprise i didn't get a single response. this does make me question what i bought and if these issues were fixed or if they will appear sometime in the future. i really wanted to give it lower then 4 eggs but i have had the drive for over a month with no issues so far.

Other Thoughts: i know for the 2TB version of this drive seagate is selling 2 different part #'s under the exact same model #. one version has 2 platters and the other has 3 platters. this is shady and inexcusable and they should have 2 different model #'s. people will see the benchmarks for the 2 platter version and assume thats what they are buying. they will be unaware that there is a chance they will be sold an inferior drive for the same price. now that seagate and wd have their monopoly on hdd's they can do stuff like this.

1 out of 5 eggsdon't bother

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: I've had 3 bad ones

Other Thoughts: I got 2 of these in a bundle with a Netgear ReadyNAS. One was DOA. The RMA and the other have both failed in less than three months.

You get what you pay for.
