5 out of 5 eggsReally Reliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I've had this several of these drives for a long time without failure. I consider this a really reliable drive.

Cons: Not the fastest drive in the world, but it is as fast as any 7200RPM drive.

Other Thoughts: This is advertised as a SATA 6.0Gb/s drive. However, it is important to realize what that means: it is capable of using 6.0Gb/s SATA slots. However, no mechanical drive at 7200RPM will EVER come even CLOSE to reaching that throughput. There is literally no advantage to a 6.0Gb/s mechanical hard drive over an equivalent 3.0Gb/s drive. (The story changes significantly if we're talking about SSD's, though.)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This is one of the best hard drives I ever purchased in the past I have used Western Digital’s black label hard drives which is their top-of-the-line well needless to say that quality product has diminished recently a purchased for hard drives and all for hard drives had to be returned due to a manufacturing error. I am now back with Seagate’s barracuda drives which are working excellent I just wish I could get the standard size and not to move soon reduced version because they will not work in my hot swap rack. There must be a money-saving initiative by the manufacturer other than that Seagate has an excellent product

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I just wish they would go back and manufacturing the standard size hard drives like it did in the past decently within hard drives are terrible, but then again it must be technology these days and emphasis has been made to save money in the manufacturing will you can’t win them all

5 out of 5 eggsNice storage

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good price point for storage. I use this as a backup for my SSD, and to store large programs I rarely use.

Cons: Although its not really slow for a moving parts drive, it has nothing on solid state drives. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone looking to boot faster than 30 secs.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate fails to perform

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Blue screened the OS Windows 7 after 10 months 9 days. I couldn't do a startup repair so I reinstalled Windows 7 and all the drivers. Work fine just long enough to patch and load steam for my kid and rebooted tested. Dropped my son off 3 hours away. Windows in a deadly loop cannot repair OS.

Other Thoughts: I had heard from some engineering friends that Seagate had gotten better with there drive electronics and engineering. I've had bad luck with them in the past. Should have went with my gut and bought a Western Digital.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Ummm, it looks very much like a hard drive.

Cons: DOA. Tried several times to format it, always says "The second NTFS boot sector is unwriteable. The first NTFS boot sector is unwriteable. All NTFS boot sectors are unwriteable. Cannot continue. Format failed."
