5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Size and price

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bough this as a secondary drive to store family photos, documents, videos etc.. It's done exactly what I've asked for it. I don't use it as a primary drive since I use an SSD for the OS and applications so I can't comment on actual speed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, cheap hard drives

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -Set up 4 of these in raid 10 in a file server with no problems, has high bandwidth (Sequential read/write 300+ MB/s in benchmarks, gigabit ethernet is limiting factor)
-Runs cool with temps rarely above 28C under load, little noticeable power consumption

Cons: -Bought one many years ago (an older version of this drive) that developed a couple of bad sectors after 16,000 power-on-hours so I knocked 1 egg off. I bought a 1.5 TB model around the same time that has 45,000 hours and no problems, but I guess 2 years of continuous use for one of the cheapest 1 TB hard drives available is reasonable.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: ???

Cons: Dead On Arrival
OS would not recognize
BIOS would not recognize
Tried in different rig but "no show"
Nothing I tried would even show any evidence that there was a drive connected aside from additional power draw...
Must be a clandestine drive....?

4 out of 5 eggsi guess it is a great product

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: bought it to clone my son's dying hard drive, at least that is what windows was saying. cant clone the old hd to it because it has a sector size of 4096. cloning software wont let you go from 512 to 4096. all I have read says that a hard drive should be recognized as 512E by windows. maybe I have more research to do but it seems rather hopeless to clone to it. :(

Cons: didn't get to find out but probably not the hard drive's fault

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 3 months

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: none, failed in 3 months

Cons: Garbage, did not install until I gathered up all the parts for a server/sharing box. Failed within 3 months. It is past the time for me to return it to Newegg so guess I'm out of luck. Will not be buying anymore Seagate drives. This the like 20th time I have heard of drives failing after upgrading (hah) from Win 7 to Win 10. Avoid Win 10 at all costs.

4 out of 5 eggsWorthless....

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Edit: 2/4/2016 I forgot to do an edit review on this item, but now I get a chance to do it. After I RMA the hard drive back to Seagate, they sent me a refurbish one and it works well with no problems at all. Since their customer service helped me promptly I will give them four stars. I took the star off because of the hassle of RMAing the hard drive to get a new one.

Cons: I installed it on my computer and it booted up fine. When I started putting files in there it started to screech and making noise. The hard drive would also disappear from my hard drive list. I ran seatool and ran a test it told me it failed an important test due to bad sectors. This drive basically came in DOA. Really wishing not purchasing this brand again... I want a refund!!!
