5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This hard drive works great - easy setup, format, etc., fast speeds, and no errors/hiccups/data loss as of yet. For the price, this is a great 1TB expansion to any build.

Cons: I have had absolutely no problems with this drive, although I do hear about the supposed unreliability of Seagate drives. I hope this drive proves those people wrong - I have good expectations that nothing will go wrong, since it survived the first 2 months with no issues.

Other Thoughts: There is, I believe, a slight whirring noise coming from this drive occasionally. However, it it only marginally louder than my Western Digital 1TB drive when it spins up. This it not really a con - it is to be expected from mechanical drives.

1 out of 5 eggsNo problems while it lasted? DIED RIGHT AT WARRANTY END

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - No complaints while it worked (~23mo)? Installed different Operating Systems, partitioned/formatted countless times - all flawlessly..

Cons: - Not sure if it's completely dead yet, but "a disk read error occurred" when trying to boot from it, Linux reports one bad sector, and cannot mount it saying "either NTFS is inconsistent, there's a hardware fault, or [something about RAID which isn't applicable]."

- STARTED DYING A FEW WEEKS OR SO BEFORE THE EXACT END OF THE WARRANTY (24mo).
Had been using Linux off a USB drive for the last ~1.5weeks... needing to do something in Windows so rebooted first time in 1.5w and tried to boot from this HDD... BUT NOPE.

Other Thoughts: First self-built computer. Chose Seagate because I had/bought a Seagate for more storage prior to building my own PC... that only died from me killing it - so I thought Seagate was fine as I never had any problems, BUT in retrospect I had that HDD only for ~1 year..... while this one started crapping out and is now a brick ~2 years in aka after warranty.

Despite me using Linux and stuff I didn't torture the HDD in special ways - not even a gamer. Browser/music/movies/torrents/docs, txts, etc. 24/7 on though.

I went and Purchased a WD to replace. Not sure if they're more reliable, but except for their Green line I don't think I've ever seen one failure report..... and if you're insecure like I was, you could buy a Black version and have a 5!!-year warranty. Blacks are only like $10/10% more per TB so it's totally worth. Their standard line, like this is for Seagate, is the exact same.

5 out of 5 eggsgood so far

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Very fast drives, peaks at 110mBps unfragmented for writes and reads.

Cons: The cover is much more fragile then normal drives, becareful when installing these.

They are also alittle more thinner then normal drives, which means they might wobble alittle when installing them in some cases/enclosures. Little bit of rubber padding solves this.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None

Cons: Drive was corrupt from the start. PC would get stuck in a BSOD and repeated reboot loop. Ran SeaTools and no were errors found...ran CHKDSK and it found multiple errors but was unable to fix them. Reinstalled Windows 8 three times with no luck. Decided to purchase an SSD last night, installed it and reinstalled Windows...no issues to speak of, PC is running great with no errors.

I had problems with a Seagate External HD in the past and against my better judgment I purchased this drive due to the low price and decent reviews. Now I wish I wouldn't have.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I'm not sure what characteristics make a hard drive more desirable than any other besides price, speed, and reliability. The price was average, the speed seems fine but I don't do benchmarks (I guess I can say it doesn't seem slow), and after six months the drive is working fine.

Cons: None after six months of use.

Other Thoughts: I bought a Seagate drive because my previous drive (now retired to the pasture of holding non-essential data in anticipation of the inevitable) is still running flawlessly after seven years.

So far, I've had no problems with this new drive. Here's hoping for another seven years.

1 out of 5 eggsRecieved a used drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price for a new drive

Cons: Drive came with the static bag opened and a piece of white tape holding it closed. It was definitely a returned drive that had been opened. It should not have been sold as new.

5 out of 5 eggsfast HDD for misc data

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This is a fairly fast HDD, it benches almost as high as my SSD in sequential tests. Of course its an HDD so seek/access times are still there, but moving big files back and forth is a breeze.

Runs quiet, but all HDDs do these days. I still remember loud HDDs though so this is still a Pro. :D

Cons: none for this drive specifically

Other Thoughts: I've been putting SSD/1 or 2TB combos in a LOT of machines over the last year, and this one is benching higher than the others in the same price space. Doing the mass Documents dump from this last build was a good deal faster than the same operation on the WD Blues I have been using for months... This is the first one I have used so we'll see about long term reliability, but I have had good luck with Seagate so far. (barring that first run of SATA 160s....*shudder*)
