1 out of 5 eggs5 of 9 Failed

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These drives perform flawless up until the point where they choke.

Cons: Of the 9 drives, of this model, that I have purchased in the last 2 years, 5 of them have failed.

Other Thoughts: Seagate and the associated resellers have been very good about replacing these failed drives, but the rate of failure is just too high to recommend this unit.

2 out of 5 eggs2 years and 2 mths

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great while it lasted.

Cons: Only lasted just over a year. Do you back up all the data on a drive this large? Not likely unless you are using it in some sort of raid. Well of course plenty of precious data lost for such a short life span. I've always loved seagate, but what is going on with hard drives these days is terrible.

Other Thoughts: really only 2 years and a 1 year warranty? Sad.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great price. Cheapest 7200rpm HDD I could find. Was the best Gb/$ ratio drive I could find that was 7200rpm. Bought 2 and both working smooth.

Cons: Have had issues with Seagate in the past but these drives have been working smooth for over a month. I only store pictures and video on them though so not any heavy use. My OS is on ssd.

Other Thoughts: Seatools is amazing. Very user friendly. I even use it to diagnose my old WD drives.

Careful buying those Green and intellipower drives. They don't spin at a full 7200rpm and can be slower. Also, the ones that change speed supposedly cause more wear and tear on the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -Huge storage capacity (since been eclipsed by 4-6 TB drives, but still respectably large capacity)
-Crammed full of media files
-Runs cool, fast, and quiet
-SMART readings are are still great after over a year of 24/7 up-time

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: 5th Seagate drive I've purchased and 0 have been DOA, even those delivered in boxes that appear to have been kicked down a stairwell or fallen out of the back of the truck. I don't think people are formatting their drives after installation..

1 out of 5 eggsBrand new and does not work.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good price for a 3TB drive. To bad that it does not work.

Cons: Brand new straight out of the box and it does not work. Tried it in two different systems. I wish that I had not bought this drive. Why do you keep selling this defective drive? It's defective and after reading reviews I am not the only person who has had problems with this drive.

Other Thoughts: Why do you keep selling this drive when everyone tells you it's defective?

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Longevity With These Drives

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price is pretty decent per GB. Drives are large. Seagate RMA process is decent and doesn't require you to sit on the phone. That really should not be a "Pro".

Cons: High failure rate which leads to poor longevity of the drives. I ordered 4 of these drives around December of 2012. One of the drives failed in the first 6 months. Return for replacement took about a week. A second failed a few months later returned that one, took about a week. I just got notification today that a third drive is failing SMART tests in under 2 years. Grrrrrr

Other Thoughts: Luckily I started to replace these drives with WD drives one by one. Soon as one goes, it gets replaced with a WD. This way I won't need to wait for Seagate to ship a drive back to me from coast to coast (USA).

I really hate the failure rate on these drives. These Seagate drives are serving as paper weights. I haven't had a problem with one of the WDs that replaced these yet. I'd stay away from these drives and spend the extra $$$ to go with WD. If there was a way to rewind time I would not have ordered these drives.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid these Seagate 3TB Drives

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: They were cheap at the time

Cons: These drives have a high failure rate for some reason. Once they fail all they do is make a clicking noise. Seagate has lowered their warranty on hard drives down to 1 year because the reliability of Seagate drives has gotten so poor.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not purchase

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: A lot of storage for a good price

Cons: It makes a lot of noise from time to time, apparently this is true for a LOT of users sobe prepared to hear things other harddrives do not usually do.

Ono top of that it is SLOW to respond. There are times I select some files and right click, and my system will hang until the drive finally decides to cooperate.

Now a few weeks later, just under a month, and the drive is causing such issues where if I select any file what so ever on it, it will hang up and I need to restart my system. I believe the drive to be dead in the water.

This is a terrible buy. It is the first drive in my user history to give me as many problems as it has.

DO NOT BUY!

Other Thoughts: Honestly go for something else, as something went horribly wrong with this drive during the design process. Seagate is a well known and respected company and I have no problem with them, however this faulty product that a lot of users seem to be complaining about is NOT worth the trouble. The frustration I am currently experiencing with this is making me grow gray hairs.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate ST3000DM001 Paper Weight

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: When they work the seem to work well.

Cons: Horrible life span. Two out of five have failed; one just outside of warranty.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately we're using the drives in a raid configuration and did not loose any data when the drives failed. If you're using it as a single drive/volume keep good backups!
