This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Return process was easy.

Cons: DOA. Would power up but not seen by bios at post or by OS.

Other Thoughts: I'm pretty much done with Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsMultiple Drive Failures

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do, for a while

Cons: Drive Failure Common To This Model

Other Thoughts: I own a Seagate Black Armor NAS, which is locked into proprietary drive requirement for Seagate drives. This means that you cannot install Western Digital, etc. I've own the NAS since Sept 2012, and in that time, 3 of the 4 drives have failed, and one of them failed twice. This means that only one of the original shipped hard drives is still operational. The first two failures were covered under warranty, but the following two failures were not.

I had two drives failed in Dec 2014 - One was an original drive, and the other an RMA drive from a previous failure. Both of these were no longer under warranty, and so I had to purchase the replacements myself. I noted on the two replacements ordered in Dec that both have a newer firmware than the previously replaced or original drives.

Between these failures, as well as other desktop Seagate drive failures, I've had at least 6 Seagate drives fail in the last 4 years.

Recent reivews of drive life/failure rates, as seen on Arstechnica, titled 'Hard Disk Reliability Examined Once More' certainly jives with my review and feedback, saying '3TB Barracuda 7200.14 units ... had a whopping 43.1 percent failure rate'

Seagate drives, especially the 3TB series, are not reliable.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -Cheap

Cons: -1st one DOA

Other Thoughts: I am on my second one of these. The first one was DOA. When I booted up my machine, it sounded like someone was scratching nails on a chalkboard. I RMA'd it, and the new one arrived within a couple days.

The new one is working fine. So we'll see how it goes over the next year.

I have another 3TB seagate drive that I've had for a year and a half, and haven't had any issues with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I bought two of these for a NAS so that my wife's photo's would be safe. This was actually the first time i bought Seagate, (usually I am a WD kind of guy) and I am impressed. The two drive have been going 24/7 for 3 years and have performed amazing. I use my NAS to stream movies/ music and these guys keep up. The only issue I ever had was on the NAS end. Would buy again

Cons: none as of 3 years in.

Other Thoughts: might have to upgrade to a 4 or 5 tb

5 out of 5 eggsOn time and Work.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great price for 3T of storage.

Cons: Only a 2 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: I purchased 3 of these. All 3 arrived on time and worked perfectly from the time they were installed which was approx. 1 month ago. I also purchased 3 more of these 1 year ago and they are still working without any issues. I'm actually using all 6 of these drives, 3 with Windows 2012 R2 as part of a Storage Space and the other 3 with Windows 8.1 also in a Storage Space. Since you can never have too much storage, I just bought 2 more....

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I've always bought Seagate drives for work and home and I've never been disappointed and this drive is no exception.

Cons: Wish I had more of them.

Other Thoughts: This drive is fast, I tested it again a 3 drives in a RAID 0 on a SATA2 controller in my system which I thought was fast but this drive on a SATA3 controller keep in time with the RAID 0 which impressed me.

5 out of 5 eggsLightening Speed

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Its Seagate, how can you go wrong? I have only had 2 bad drives out of box in past 10 years...dont get me wrong the drives will fail eventually, but its nice to know that Seagate has your back the their excellent warranty and easy RMA program...

New egg thanks for the fast turn around also...the got my order to me in lightening speed!

The reason I stay with Seagate is because of their warranty and RMA

Cons: NONE..

2 out of 5 eggsSeagate 7200.14 ST3000DM001

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked well for the year that I've been using it for.

Cons: Started getting extremely long boot up and shut down times as well as extremely long times to access any files. When rebooting, the HDD doesn't show up half the time now.

Other Thoughts: Using it as a storage drive with a SSD as a primary. No issues for a year then things started slowing down, access errors, extremely long boot and shut down times. After troubleshooting everything else, isolated it down to this hard drive. Backing up everything that isn't backed up already while I can still access and replacing.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Just Fine

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: No problems at all.
Good specs for the price.

Cons: Negative reviews by so many other owners makes me nervous.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this in February of 2014. I'm using it in my primary desktop system at home. I have it about 80% filled. It holds a lot of data and a secondary OS.
It has given me no problems or any sign of trouble. I am a bit worried, after seeing all the negative reviews from other people who have had problems. I don't recall seeing them when I bought this. Maybe I wasn't paying attention. I never knowingly buy anything with a sub-4 egg rating.
