1 out of 5 eggsLasted until just after warranty expired

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Pro: Held my data for two years and one second.

Cons: Con: Does not have a warranty that lasts two years and two seconds. I always feel somewhat ripped off when an item lasts exactly as long as the warranty. Last night with zero warning this drive simply disappeared from Windows Explorer. When I restarted, it had disappeared from the BIOS too. After changing the port and cable I did get it it to come up long enough to retrieve my some files not yet backed up, but I ran SeaTools on it and it did not pass the short "Fix it" test so its not my PC...its the drive. I downloaded SeaTools for Dos and am now running the long tests to see if it can banish some bad sectors and at least function as a backup drive.

So I basically rented this thing for six bucks a month for two years. Now I will probably end up throwing it in the trash. Seagate, if you gotta make junk, could you at least make it a LITTLE junkier so it will expire in 23 months, not 25? What a rip-off.

1 out of 5 eggs32 days past warranty

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Well for 2 years and 1 month it was a great drive...

Cons: and 2 years and 1 month later 30-days after the warranty period it up and died.

Other Thoughts: I've generally had pretty good luck with Seagates in the past, this might have just been the exception, but I've got 5 other drives in the system and this was the newest of them and the first to go.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Quiet spin up, random write/read speeds are not terrible. I backed up my movies from my FreeNAS box to this on my main rig (ntfs) and was getting 98 mbps transfer obviously limited by ethernet. When transferring to my ssd I cap out at 145 mbps. Not alot of air moving over the drive and stays cool to the touch and slightly warm after 20-30 minutes of transfer. This drive uses only 9 watts on the 12v and 3.75 watts on the 5 v, good enough for me.

Cons: Im not going to complain about the price but the prices are coming down little by little.

Other Thoughts: I wish newegg/seagate would sell these in pairs

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 2 years 1 month

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked well for 2 years and one month. Bought in 2012 for $157, was a good price.

Cons: Failed and lost all my data after 2 years and 1 month. I didn't have anything terribly important on it, just TV shows and movies and such, but to have a hard drive fail (especially after such little time) is annoying.

1 out of 5 eggs3 failures in 5 months

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None

Cons: I have had three...yes...three of these drives fail within a 5 month period. One of the drives that failed was the recertified drive I had received from Seagate two months ago. These drives are in a RAID array so I did not lose any data. My Western Digital Black drives have not had a single failure. Looks like I will replace the remaining Seagate drives with a more reliable drive like WD.

2 out of 5 eggsfast but unreliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: High data rates, low power, low noise.

Cons: I bought one from New egg on 11/23/2012.
It started getting a massive number of bad blocks two weeks, around the middle of Sept 2014. Now I get to see how their warranty works.

1 out of 5 eggsclick-of-death, STAY AWAY from this junk

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: quiet, big

Cons: Head crash and click-of-death 2 drives back to back within 2 months with less than 2 years of usage which lead loss of 3+TB worth of data. Fortunately I still have the extended warranty to get my money back. Ive read online about these drives because they are made in China (earlier batch I think) instead of Thailand so the quality is far inferior... stay away at all cost if you value your data.

Other Thoughts: garbage drive, dont buy unless you want to risk losing your data

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome! Fast Delivery (3 days), Large Quiet Drive, Fast Read/Write Speeds!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Arrived to my door in 3 days. Large Drive: Shows up as 2.72 TB on Windows 7 based computer. Fast Benchmarks (Plugged into a Sata 2 3GB/s slot): Sequential Read:227 Sequential Write:210 Random Read:537 Random Write:436 I'm not sure if it would be faster with Sata 3 or not, but its plenty fast enough for me right now. Also runs very quiet, my case is NOT very sound proof and I can only hear it making a bit of noise when I start downloading about 500 kb/s

Cons: n/a

3 out of 5 eggsCheap and Fast

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap and fast

Cons: consistently inconsistent

Other Thoughts: speeds are always varying though the setup and connections have not changed. I have 2 of these drives in a Synology DS212J and 1 1/2 years later one of the drives have failed.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother drive dead 5 weeks after warranty expired

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Inexpensive and fast

Cons: This drive had operated well for 2 years 1 month, and 1 week.
All S.M.A.R.T. readings were OK
After a system reboot, the drive went offline and after investigating, I noted that the drive was powering up, clicking a few times, and then powering down.
All without any S.M.A.R.T. warnings.

I am so glad that I back my data up to other drives.
The unfortunate thing, is that my data is backed up to Seagate drives.

Other Thoughts: I think I am going to have to find another drive vendor.
I just purchased a WD 4TB NAS, and hopefully I get a bit longer operational life out of that one
