3 out of 5 eggsWell...

Pros: Good price; cheap storage.

Cons: Got two at the same time, one took a dive within four months, the other's still going almost a year later. Do you feel lucky, punk?

Other Thoughts: Think I'm gonna go ahead and slide away from Seagates in the future. I just noticed the other day that my pile of deceased hard drives are all Seagate. May have to stick with Western Digital from now on.

3 out of 5 eggsQuestionable reliability

Pros: Decent performance

Cons: May not last long if used in a NAS

Other Thoughts: I bought 5 of these for a 5 drive NAS box (not knowing that I should buy NAS drives recommended by the company) and they performed fine for just about a year. I just had one of them go bad in my RAID and I had to replace it. I don't know if it went bad because it is not built for a NAS or if the drive is defective. I do have 2 of these drives in RAID 0 on my desktop computer and they've been running for 2+ years. I decided not to pursue warranty on this drive as I believe it is not built for as NAS.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent drive

Pros: Lower price

Cons: Not the fastest, best, newest drive.

Other Thoughts: This is a decent drive. I have an Antec 200 with a front 3.5" drive bay. I plugged this drive into the front of my case (first hooking up the inside power and SATA) and formatted this baby. It worked great from the start. I was copying data in 5 minutes. I have never purchased this brand but I would recommend this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsIt is a seagate

Pros: Umm it works but thats about it.

Cons: It is slow compared to my WD drives. Bought this for a build, I was doing for my best friend. Was trying to get them out of the stone age. ended up having to buy a WD to finish their build with. This one now stores family photo's. About all it is good for.

Other Thoughts: I have never liked seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective Firmware

Pros: Bought this simply for the controller board to replace a defective board on an old drive. Appears this board is a victim of the infamous BSY defective firmware. Drive will not show up in Windows or even the BIOS. Since I have hacked the new one already I can't replace. Now I have to try and load new firmware through the jumper port which has been problematic.

Cons: Defective firmware. According to other reviews, I shouldn't be surprised. Since all I wanted was the controller board, I wasn't too worried about it. Stupid me I guess.

Other Thoughts: No reason to buy a $50 refurbished 500GB drive unless you need it for parts. Even then it is obviously a poor choice based on everybody's experience. I would avoid at all costs.

2 out of 5 eggsdefective?

Pros: it works half way.

Cons: This thing has to be the noisiest hard drive i have ever heard. It constantly makes a clicking noise like its reading data. but it sounds like a loose needle spinning. checked my case and everything was securely packed. feels a little jaggy. wondering if it was worth the price since there is no refunds.
