4 out of 5 eggsSegate Self Encrypting Drive

Pros: Operational Speed - Bought this drive to prove a theory about the minimal affect encryption would have on throughput. The system into which this was being installed had a very high priority on real-time operation. Speed tests we ran showed less than 1% hit in our most drive intensive operation (most drive I/O). To gain AES 256 bit encryption and FIPS140-2 compliance, well worth the cost.

Cons: Not a con with the drive, just a con that while I knew the drive would require the Trustworty Computing standard command set/compliance, I would imagine that a number of people would not know that. Should be displayed right out front where folks can see it. I am a big Linux user and while I can connect and use the drive under Linux, encryption won't happen. Luckily, a lot of Linux distros allow encryption through a kernel module.

Other Thoughts: Good Speed, Good Price, Newegg service. Gotta love it.
