1 out of 5 eggsOh Well!!

Pros: Fast, quiet.

Cons: Did not last long.

Other Thoughts: I originally ordered two 1 terrabyte drives to use in a raid 0 configuration. I was shipped two 500 gigabyte by mistake. The computer was a friend's, so I did not bother to send them back, and used them for the build, since 2 terrabytes would have been way overkill anyway. Well I guess I should have, since one of the drives bit the dust about a year and 3 months later. hence the title of the review...Oh Well! I will file this under the 'stuff happens' column.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast Enough, None failed, thin, size, price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had 6 of these in my machine for 2+ years now, with no noticed or reported read/write issues. I've used various versions of debian linux: ubuntu 12.04...xubuntu 14.04. Some are partitioned into multiple drives (eg boot, swap, root) and some are single partitioned (ext3/4).

5 out of 5 eggsthank you for refund

Pros: I purchase the Seagate SV35 - bare drive great price - BUT returned as system did not recognize. BUT quick response on the return - appreciated

Cons: I then in stalled and system would not recognized - learned - unless you know what you are doing - do not save the few dollars - get the hard drive with the box and the software.

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: This 1 Tb hard drive came with about 931Gb of usable space after Windows 7 installation, which I think is pretty good. No issues with installation and it was a great price.

Cons: Data transfer rate is a little on the slow end. Windows 7 experience index gave it a 5.9 on disk data transfer rate.

Other Thoughts: I wish it came with a sata cable

4 out of 5 eggsGreat So far..

Pros: Runs cool. Good price and speedy shipping from Newegg as always..
The drive is listed as designed for surveillance type applications. As in made for time lapse and other type surveillance DVR equipment. It is VERY small in size and weight. I thought for a moment when I took it out of the box that I had purchased a laptop drive by mistake because it was so svelte. Seems to run cool and quiet. I performed a mass file copy of over 1,500,000 files totaling 898 GB in just under 8 hours with no transfer errors or other mishaps.

Cons: None so far. We will see how reliable and well built it is over time.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this along with a Mediasonic 4bay JBOD enclosure. I'm happy as a clam with the drive AND the enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsAll 4 drives bad Feb 2014 (2 DOA) (2 lose data)

Pros: They benchmark at 30% faster than the Toshiba drives I replaced them with as a stand alone drive. But both Seagate and Toshiba benchmark the same 190mbs once you get 2 or more drives in a raid.

Cons: Bought 4 drives packaged well in the new Newegg air sacks Feb 2014. 2 drives DOA. The other two drives kept losing my surveillance data running 24\7 in the 1st week of use. Returned them to Newegg within 2 weeks. Replaced them with ultra cheap Toshiba drives that were 30% less money (so I bought a 5th for a spare) and have been running flawless for nearly 100 days 24\7 in the raid 5.

Other Thoughts: Needed 4 drives to work reliable in an Addonics 4 drive, 1U rack mount set up as raid 5. I love the ultra cheap Toshiba drives that give me the same performance along with reliability in my Raid 5 setup. For the same money you get 5 reliable Toshiba drives vs 4 unreliable Seagate drives. Nuff said. Go with the 7200rpm Toshiba's!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Drive

Pros: Runs smoothly and quietly. Definitely fits the description of cost-effective mass storage.

Cons: Upon format, drive totaled to 931gigs. Less than 10% of max capacity lost so I am happy with it, but above 5% so 1 egg removed from the rating.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with Zmodo KDC8-YARUZ8ZN 8 Channel DVR

Pros: Don't know didn't get to work with Zmodo. Windows indicated that it is a good drive but when formated for every possible format it will not work with the Zmodo KDC8-YARUZ8ZN 8 Channel H.264 Level 960H DVR

Cons: I worked on and off for a month trying to get it to work with Zmodo KDC8-YARUZ8ZN 8 Channel H.264 Level 960H DVR by trying different things. Windows indicated that the drive was good, but the Zmodo would not recognize it when it would recognize other drives. I ran diagnostic software on the drive and formatted it for everything on the sun including ex2,3,4 and nothing. Even some of the formatting routines from Hiren
