5 out of 5 eggsI Bought This For A HTPC Application

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive is designed to optimize performance in surveillance video applications. I chose this drive for a Windows 7 HTPC application. It is fast enough to record 2 programs simultaneously. I figure that this should be better suited to my application than a standard hard drive would be.

Cons: The specs list this as a SATA III drive, but it really is no faster than SATA II drives.

Other Thoughts: The HTPC has only been operational for a few months, so I can not attest to the drives longevity.

4 out of 5 eggsThis is evaluation/comments on a 1TB HDD

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: NIce capacity and was nice price. I buy HDDs for stock when I need them. Ordered many from NE.
I seem to have good results, generally with Seagate and WD products.

Cons: Received DOA. Tried several boxes with the same results (XP and 7). Symptom was the drive would spin up (upon applying power) then a couple seconds later stop. Obviously, any BIOS would never see the drive. Yes, ordered 2 years ago, kept in stock, then needed to install in new machine. Site web system said no returns; but I later figured out the solution by contacting NE (chat) and then OEM. It took a little while to contact either the seller or OEM. Seller does not appear to have phone support and saw bad reviews on them. I did not know that it appears (to me) that NE is a reseller (closing house) and does not stock some items in a warehouse, but rather buy from outside sources and they ship directly to you (the customer). Probably like Amaz does it? This is now understood and most likely the reason NE has good prices.

OEM replaced it under warranty with equivalent or better. Still wary of NE using UPS (goons). Wish they would use Fed-Ex or USPS who generally are much easier on package handling.

Other Thoughts: I did select a new product originally, I believe. In the future I may pay the extra at the local store and let them handle any warranty issues. The whole process took about 3 months. Partially because of my ignorance on the whole process since this I have not done warranty exchanges until recently. I wish NE had phone support but I figure they do not have the manpower to answer thousands of calls. Most likely why TD almost went out of business. I guess NE is doing the best they can. This was a special case because I was dealing with 2 separate orders, this one I got about 2 years ago and a recent 2nd drive (DOA) that was a 750 GB one to try out because of this one (1TB) not working. I'm glad OEM extended my warranty (3-year) when I sent in the proof of purchase. TIP: Keep your shipping box with the labels for this reason.

Pros: stores data like it should

Other Thoughts: plugs into sata port on MOBO, and the sata power spot

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Owned for nearly two years now. Bought two for my wife's gaming rig. They are still going strong without any problems... which is good since they're in a RAID array. Solid drives, definitely recommend.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: No problems, bad sectors that I see so far or failures. Good performance and good price. That's about all you need for a hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsTough

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This is a fairly quiet, tough drive. I've had it roughly a year and a half of substantially-higher-than-average (for a consumer) use, and it's still ticking along without much issue-- it's quite literally outlasted the backup external drive I got to go with it.

Cons: Not particularly fast, especially when writing. If you're doing video editing, processing large file archives, or whatever else might have actions in the multiple dozens of GBs, be prepared to twiddle your thumbs for a bit.

This is to be expected for a 7200RPM platter drive, though.

Other Thoughts: Does what it's supposed to do.

5 out of 5 eggsDrive does it's job

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The drive is doing great, great storage, does what I need it to. I have an SSD for boot, but before I did, this drive did a pretty good job on its own

Cons: none I can think of

5 out of 5 eggsWorked out very well

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Made a nice secondary drive (I run an SSD as primary.) Read/write speeds are as can be expected. Nothing too fancy, but for the price, a rock solid drive.

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for 8 months... then poof.

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked for 8 months.

Cons: Stopped working after 8 months and everything was lost.

Other Thoughts: It spins up, but nothing will recognize it. I was really hoping for something that would break the one year barrier, but I guess i was expecting too much. I hope this is not something endemic to Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggsOh Well!!

This review is from: Seagate SV35.6 ST1000VX000 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Surveillance Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast, quiet.

Cons: Did not last long.

Other Thoughts: I originally ordered two 1 terrabyte drives to use in a raid 0 configuration. I was shipped two 500 gigabyte by mistake. The computer was a friend's, so I did not bother to send them back, and used them for the build, since 2 terrabytes would have been way overkill anyway. Well I guess I should have, since one of the drives bit the dust about a year and 3 months later. hence the title of the review...Oh Well! I will file this under the 'stuff happens' column.
