2 out of 5 eggsNot a promising start

Pros: 1. My drive does in fact have a five year warranty. I checked using the Seagate warranty status page.

Cons: 1. Drive not securely packed in the shipping container. As a result the internal box was sliding around in the shipping container.

2. When I installed and started the drive I heard a shrill high-pitched shriek that lasted at least 2 minutes. I also notice that when I slightly tipped the mini-tower I heard a slight grinding sound like the head is touching the spinning drive. (I checked this on the existing three hard drives before installing the new drive; no sound from the existing drives when I do this. And I am running with the side panel off so I can hear noises from the hard drives).

The computer does in fact recognize the drive. I am running stress tests on the drive now.

4 out of 5 eggsExpected

Pros: Enterprise, 2TB drives with large cache and SATA III. Very quiet and run very quickly even in an older server with only a SATA II RAID controller.

Cons: One of the two drives ordered was dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: HDs have the highest failure rate of any device mostly due to the sensitivity of the drive and the moving parts it contains. Receiving a dead drive once in a while is to be expected.

The functioning drive is extremely quiet and very fast. BIOS and RAID controller both picked it up much faster than the previous drives we'd been using which makes for a quicker boot time and less noise in the server room.

With a single call, Newegg advance replaced the drive and even waived the shipping fee. Kudos again to Newegg on their excellent customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsRAID 6

Pros: Didn't have any DOA's. I chose next day shipping. Running 8 of these in RAID 6 on an ARECA card - just because I can. As you can expect, Windows 7 x64 takes some time to look at a drive this large during boot and Disk Management.

ARECA 1231ML-2G RAID card.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I would build an 8 drive 11TB RAID 6 again with these - just because I can.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Performer, Cool Temperatures

Pros: Performance and Operating Temps are very good.

Cons: Price, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Use as a parity drive in my 16TB unRaid server. So faf so good.

1 out of 5 eggsHighly Dissapointed

Pros: none

Cons: Had a client order 2 of these 2 weeks ago. Show up today to install them, first one is DoA. 2nd drive dismounted after roughly 5 minutes of uptime. Rebooted to troubleshoot the issue, and drive now wont spin. Highly disappointed both drives out of the box are of no use.
