4 out of 5 eggsFast and reliable

Pros: slim profile, large capacity, good transfer speeds (not tested on USB 3.0 capable machine)

Cons: somewhat fragile connector, supplied USB cable is stiff and very thick

3 out of 5 eggsBe Ready

Pros: The transfer rate is great as well as the capacity. Also when I purchased it from Best Buy (sorry NewEgg I needed it that moment for back up) it was only $79.99, so a great price.

Cons: The cable PERIOD. Many people posted about the cable being problematic and I thought I would get lucky and not deal with a "really stiff" or "loosely held" or faulty in any way cable. I was wrong.
This took place in a week. First the cable went out and windows was seeing that the drive was connected, but not recognized and had an error of usb device malfunctioning. I replaced the cable with one listed by another buyer to be a good replacement. While waiting for the new one to arrive I attempted the old one a few more times and noticed the LED stopped coming on. This immediately sent up a red flag. I tried the new cable when it arrived and the LED came on, but the drive did not spin, silence. Now, not even windows was noticing it was plugging into the usb drive. More red flags. I then asked a friend who is more well versed in hardware and he suggested that the drive is fine, but lacking power to spin therefore read.

Other Thoughts: With this new perspective I opened the original case and replanted the disk into a spare external enclosure that I thankfully had lying around doing nothing.

My drive is fixed and reads as the Toshiba Canvio according to windows, but is in a completely different casing.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks -needs new cord.

Pros: Good amount of memory, and backwards compatible. It doesn't work with USB 3.0 when you just get it, so you have to buy a new cable.

Cons: 20MB/ps using USB 2.0.
3.0 doesn't work, the cable will shock you if you touch it funny. The cord is a piece of poop in general. The HDD itself is nice and works good, though. Toshiba just doesn't know how to design cords properly.

Other Thoughts: I went ahead and ordered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119286
as soon as I took this think out of the box and tried to use the USB 3.0 to no avail, and it SHOCKING me. Every usb I plug it into, it shocks me from. The casing on it is thick, but shocks still.

3 out of 5 eggsOrder a new cord with this and you're in good hands

Pros: The harddrive itself works fine. Files transfer rather quickly. No known problems yet.

Cons: The USB cord that this comes with breaks almost INSTANTLY. Mine stopped working within two weeks of getting it. Not to mention that it's incredibly un-flexible.

Other Thoughts: If you want to buy this, order a separate "USB 3.0 to Micro B" cable with it, because the one that Toshiba gives you breaks right away. You can't buy these cords at Circuit City or Best Buy, so I had to wait a whole week just for my new cord to arrive, and in the mean time I couldn't access my files.

This is the cord I got and it works fine. It's also twice as long, and much more flexible than the one Toshiba gives you:

3 out of 5 eggsUSB Connector

Pros: USB 3.0

Cons: Don't know. I haven't bought one...yet.

Other Thoughts: Hey just so you all know the connector on this drive is not proprietary. It is the new mini USB 3.0 connector. Half of it is exactly the same as the mini USB 2.0 connector so you can use an older cable. The other half is to handle the extra connections that make USB 3.0 faster. You can buy these cables on Newegg if you want. They are not hard to find.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: I actually picked this up at Best Buy because I had a gift card there, and figured what the heck. I wanted an external HDD that was sleek looking, had a capacity larger than 500GB, and was fast. Well, this thing wins. It's awesome. It's very quiet and spins up very quickly (and goes into a power saving mode if the drive isn't accessed for more than 5 minutes by spinning down the drive). It has one white LED on the top of the case at one end, and it's not too bring or too dim (and blinks when the disk is in use). Yes, it's only 5400 RPM, but it feels like a 7200 RPM drive. This thing flys, and I'm still only using it on a USB 2.0 port. I've taken it on a ton of trips and plugged/unplugged it many many dozens of times and it has not failed me whatsoever. I'm using a MacBook Pro (formatting it for Windows 7 or OS X is a breeze of course). Can't say enough good things about this drive.

Cons: The USB cable that comes with it is only about a foot long. This is fine for me, but for some it might be bothersome. The real problem is that the port connecting to the drive itself is a proprietary plug. Meaning you can't just use any old USB cable with this, you'd need one that had the proprietary plug on one end I've only seen Toshiba drives include. But please don't let this discourage you from buying this drive. The included cable fits in the port very snug and WILL NOT just randomly fall out and cause you to lose it. And the cable is of course USB 3.0 compatible.

Other Thoughts: The USB cable thing is very minor, I promise you (unless you need a lot more length). This drive is fantastic and very reliable.

1 out of 5 eggsCable problem

Pros: Large capacity

Cons: Toshiba exclusive connection on HDD, cable is weak and doesn't work anymore unless its in the right position.
Annoying software wants to back it up every time you plug it in.

Other Thoughts: Wipe the stupid thing when you get it so its not containing the backup auto play software. For goodness sake don't bend the cable!
