Toshiba's MQ01ABD series offers capacity up to 1TB of storage capacity using 500GB per platter technology, enabling the MQ01ABD hard disk drives to speed data processing at higher performance than prior generation products. The 5,400 RPM drive series is engineered for energy efficiency and quiet operation, contributing to longer and quieter operation on a single battery charge.

The 500GB-per-platter design, coupled with the benefits of power efficiency and acoustic performance allows PC and consumer electronics devices to provide up to 1TB of capacity with fast performance, minimal heat dissipation and enhanced power utilization in a compact, 2.5-inch form factor. The MQ01ABDseries is ideal for notebook and desktop PCs, mobile workstations, gaming consoles, DVR set-top boxes, external storage solutions and other applications requiring high capacity, durability and cost-effective storage.

The MQ01ABD drive series continues Toshiba Corporation's global commitment to Environmentally Conscious Products (ECPs) that have minimal environmental impact. As part of this voluntary initiative, Toshiba has reduced or eliminated additional hazardous substances in the MQ01ABD drives.

5 out of 5 eggsFast shipping, great packaging, Item arrived as descibed

Pros: Standard 2.5" hard disk drive for portables/laptops. 500GB used in our machine laptops for OS and temporary storage. We have had no major issues with these drives.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 1.5 years but is not covered by warranty

Pros: it worked while it lasted

Cons: Failed after 1.5 years.

Other Thoughts: Came as part of a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and the HD S/N is not recognized at the Toshiba RMA website, although the laptop's is, which I take to mean that it only has the laptop's warranty (1 year). Will replace it but not with a Toshiba!

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Works like an HD is supposed to. Good shipping time.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Wish it was cheaper, even when on sale. Bought it when they had the $10 off. Using it in a PS3. Been using it for about 2 months now, no problems. 5400 is slow, but not too noticeable in a PS3. Major things effected are usually load times, but even then its on average only a difference of a couple of seconds(5-10 avg) between 5400 and 7200.

1 out of 5 eggsMore than a Great headache

Pros: Drive was formatted and was reconized by sysstem BIOS as soon as I installed it. Got it in just a few days. Packed very very well, and brand spanking new in sealed antistaic bag.

Cons: I own a Toshiba L305-S5903 Satalite Series laptop. And it came with Vista Ultimate on it, which I instaled Windows 7 on it w/o haste and it took the loading procedure quite well. But when I installed the new hard drive and tried to load W7 I got a error message saying " Windows could not load due to this computers hardware ". I called up Toshiba Tech Support where I was redirected to 9 differant tel. #'s to address this issue. I finally got directed to the origanal tel. # I called and was told they could help me install the O.S. no problem, BUT FOR $69.00, ( can u say rip-off ). I told her I would check with my computer guy for further help. The reason I chose Toshiba instead of more drives that cost less was to avoid such incompatability issues.I finally put back the old hard drive , created 4 system restore DVD's incld. a system rescue dics and put in the new drive and loaded the Mirror image of what was on my computer to the new hard drive. Considering Toshiba called have offered me this info. for free really upsets me and I'll never buy a Toshiba piece of equpment again. Terrible Tech. Support.

Other Thoughts: Considering I could have bought any drive to replace my low capacity orig. hard drive to a 500GB unit. You would think because you bought a new Toshiba drive it would come with Tech Support for my problem. But no, I spent hours on the phone with Toshiba to no end. Finallly I had to post my dilima on "Fix Ya's " wesite and imeaditly got an answer to what I had to do to get this hard drive installed in my laptop. And shame on Toshiba for trying to charge ne $69.00 to help me install the O.S. Y would think buying Toshiba would have been enough to avoid such issues. It only affirms my posistion that I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOSHIBA PIECE OF EQIPMENT AGAIN. Not with the headaches I went trough. Toshiba could have easily offered me a solution for free considering I bought orig. Toshiba parts. I also own a Toshiba Canvio 1TB ext. hard drive where there was no tech support at all except for some phantom website called "" which when input gives you an errror message saying this website is not available. Save your self the headaches and money and buy a differant brand brand. Never have I been so upset with a companys inability to help their customers wiith new product support!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very happy with this hardrive. I upgraded from a 80gb ps3 hardrive to a 500gb. My ps3 is an old school one. Very simple to just put in the ps3 and put the latest firmware update and bam 500 gb. Some else wrote how its not exactly 500gb more like 465. In reality all the updates and software is more than likely taking up that extra space that makes up the difference.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsPS3 Slim upgrade

Pros: Got this to replace my Toshiba 320gb hard drive since it went bad after 4 years and its been solid replacement. The ps3 slim had no trouble recognizing the hard drive. Make sure that you have the latest firmware update on a flash drive or external hard drive that's FAT32 since you will need it when the ps3 is formatting your new hard drive. You can get the latest firmware from

With the 500gb hard drive after formatting I got 412gb/500gb to work with.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and fast

Pros: as mentioned in the title, its quiet and fast. Installed in my MacBook Pro along with an SSD. Read and write speeds seem fast, and the price seems fair. I actually have two of these, one which came out of a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 portable hard drive I bought from my local store with Mart in the name. Exact same hard drive, but it was actually only 53.97 there and you get a USB 3.0 enclosure.

Cons: None found so far.

Other Thoughts: A note on other reviews made on this item:

How can you write a review (even if its a positive one) on a product that you don't own or have never even seen?

I don't know what the other guys problem was, but both of mine show a 499.76GB drive capacity, which is close enough to 500 for me.
