Toshiba's MQ01ABD series offers capacity up to 1TB of storage capacity using 500GB per platter technology, enabling the MQ01ABD hard disk drives to speed data processing at higher performance than prior generation products. The 5,400 RPM drive series is engineered for energy efficiency and quiet operation, contributing to longer and quieter operation on a single battery charge.

The 500GB-per-platter design, coupled with the benefits of power efficiency and acoustic performance allows PC and consumer electronics devices to provide up to 1TB of capacity with fast performance, minimal heat dissipation and enhanced power utilization in a compact, 2.5-inch form factor. The MQ01ABDseries is ideal for notebook and desktop PCs, mobile workstations, gaming consoles, DVR set-top boxes, external storage solutions and other applications requiring high capacity, durability and cost-effective storage.

The MQ01ABD drive series continues Toshiba Corporation's global commitment to Environmentally Conscious Products (ECPs) that have minimal environmental impact. As part of this voluntary initiative, Toshiba has reduced or eliminated additional hazardous substances in the MQ01ABD drives.

5 out of 5 eggsIt just works!

Pros: Quiet, cool, inexpensive, seems fast.

Cons: none yet (hopefully never)

Other Thoughts: I needed a big drive to collect all our important family videos, photos, etc . I'm using this on an old P4 Dell with a PATA (ide) to SATA adapter without a hitch.. I recommend this drive.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Installs into a PS3 flawlessly. Decent size and form-factor. RPM is on the dot, as the PS3 won't spin above 5400 RPM anyway. At the time, the price was $80, so it was totally worth it. No complaints since, and the person I replaced the PS3's HDD with has noticed increased performance.

Cons: For a laptop hard-drive, you'd expect higher RPM and Cache, especially for stock price of $130. Ouch.

Other Thoughts: Great when it's on sale. have at it.

1 out of 5 eggsNoisy - loud clicking

Pros: Works.

Cons: NOT QUIET. HAS VERY LOUD CLICKING. This came as in internal drive in my Arctic MC001, which is supposed to be a completely noiseless, fanless HTPC. However, the terrible clicking that this drive gives off during normal operations can clearly be heard during quiet times from across my living room. As a result, I am having to replace it.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure there are lots of application where a clicking hard drive would not be objected to. But trying to use it in a "silent" HTPC is not one of them. Bad choice, Arctic.

5 out of 5 eggsA good deal

Pros: SATA 3, quiet, cool.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I replaced a hybrid drive as the second drive in an I7 quad core laptop, and one is a primary drive replacing a hybrid in an I5 dual core. In random reads and writes, the analog has been copying around 5 MBs/sec faster than the hybrid. Some defrag applications seem to be more compatible as well.

As the primary drive in the I5, I am using a Class 10 SD card as Ready Boost. It is almost as fast as the hybrid. At least I am happy with the speed.

The battery life has increased with the 5400 RPM as well.

5 out of 5 eggsBuilt like a Swiss watch

Pros: Works exactly as expected, tremendous value for the buck. Only took ten minutes to install in HP-dv-7 lap top.

Cons: The physical install was quick & easy.

Other Thoughts: TIP: POP for the Windows 8 upgrades rather than installing earlier versions. My Windows 7 systems restore w/ updates took five hours. I've done this before using an old dated system disc w/ an on line $40. Update available from the MS website & did the entire transition in less than two hours. The physical install is the easy part.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far great drives

Pros: Put two of these in a small raid box, and am pleased so far. Very quiet, cool, plus verified with Toshiba warranty site these have a full three-year warranty. The manufacture date was less than one month before I received these.

Cons: Didn't get them on "super-saver" - and there are no 2tb drives in 2.5" thinner than 15mm - Raid box won't hold those.

Other Thoughts: I think there is very little difference to be found among the WD, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung 1tb 5400 laptop drives - so for me warranty was the thing.

3 out of 5 eggsVery noisy!

Pros: Good deal in terms of price per GB.

Cons: This is the "clickiest" notebook drive I've heard in a long time. Even during sequential reads/writes it frequently makes loud clicking sounds, even louder than a desktop hard drive near the end of it's life. It sounds like someone standing over your shoulder and smacking their lips. Drive seems to be working fine and passes all SMART tests, but that clicking makes me really nervous as it usually indicates a drive is about to fail.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat capacity for the price

Pros: Overall the only real improvement from the previous HDD is the increased sectors and clusters on the 1TB Diskettes, when I imaged my smaller hard drive with the C:// drive and Recovery partition worked swell (After many hours of wait) and I had my new drive with Windows 7 Home Premium all my partitions (HP tools and Microsoft Office click-to-run) as well as my files and desktop icons transferred seamlessly.

Cons: the c: drive partition was still only 328 GB so the rest of the space was unallocated, all 645 GB of it, but became a none issue when I mounted the extra space to the C: drive as a media portal on my desktop

Other Thoughts: the problems with the partitions and unallocated space was unrelated to the Hard Drive itself so there are no real cons with this device, however I noticed that the Windows boot process takes a few extra minutes, but its all good, I'm a patient man.
