3 out of 5 eggsFails to write-won't wake up

Pros: It does work as stated by the other lucky reviewers-when it is awake and my old Win XP sp3 desktop sees it. And I find the Backups simple (this is where my technical knowledge is lacking) meaning that the files are backed up in a usable format - no need of the backup software to get and copy a file from the 'backup.'

Cons: My OS can't wake it up when it looks for this HDD (why the 2 D's?) and the HDD went into standby. Windows repeatedly tries to write to it without luck and I end up with several Warning boxes on screen that say I have a write failure. Bummer-this makes it extremely unreliable for the way I believe most of us like a HDD to work - be there when the PC needs to work with it WITHOUT a Human to 'shake' it awake.

Other Thoughts: If one wants this for a once a week or month backup schedule where the user would attach this HDD to the system and run the backup then put it in storage (off site), it might be considered a great product, but it isn't sold that way. So, maybe that is how it will end up for me. And who knows maybe a driver update will be available that will correct this 'heavy' sleeper. Wake UP!!!!

2 out of 5 eggsThink about it.. TWICE

Pros: Newegg shipped fairly quick, great price...Just the product was lacking... I have had it since February 22, 2013.. And it crapped out this past weekend, when I most depended on it to function properly.. Lost all my music files.. (cursing still in silence)

Cons: Lost all my music files.. (cursing still in silence)
Toshiba asks for a credit card to send you another replacement or just plain wait till they send u a voucher to " buy anything from their Toshiba direct" PFFFTTT!!! How about u send me a replacement now and let me re-back it up to my WESTERN DIGITAL.. Talk about that ughhhhh feeling.

Other Thoughts: Toshiba, stick to TVs and electronics you support in a better and timely fashion and don't sell us cra99y drives.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems so far.

Pros: I hooked it to my Ubuntu media server to keep a second copy of my classic TV shows. It's done exactly what I bought it to do.

Yes it's only been 6 months and I realize drives can fail, which is why I bought it.

I suspect they fail early in their lives though, and if they don't fail then, they're likely to last a few years. So I should be good to go. :)

Actually though, the 2 Terrabyte media drive I'm backing up is... just about full, which is why I'm back, and since I'm back to possibly buy the same drive again, I suppose that means that "yes", I would recommend the drive to a friend. :)

ALWAYS have at least two copies of anything importantant though, any drive "can" fail, and in fact "will" fail.

Cons: Manufacturers now days rate drives in human gigs(base 10) instead of computer gigs (base 2) like a computer uses but I suppose they all do that ever since some marketing dude/dudet figured out it make the capacity sound higher and... since one does it they all have too. Kinda sad. :(

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: None

Cons: Unreliable

Other Thoughts: I have had this drive for just a few months and it has already failed. It would regularly disconnect from my computer and now it is not recognized by Windows.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Customer Service

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Lasted 2 wks after install at customer site - Toshiba wanted $180 holding fee to replace the drive under warranty. Told them we would send them the drive and they could then send another one - "That's not how we do it" was the reponse from Toshiba. I just threw it in the trash. Last product I will ever order from Toshiba

4 out of 5 eggsSome thoughts about this product after 4 months of using it !

Pros: I bought this product for more than 4 months, and this is still working ok. The average speed is about 70 MB/s, and it is fast, isn't it ?

Cons: This product has some problems with connecting, and the adapter is not good. I have some important experiences with it. Toshiba support is NOT good, too. Also, I think this HDD is NOT for automatic backup, so don't do it ^^"

Other Thoughts: These are my experiences about it :

1 - Think carefully before you buy this product. I can see that there is NO support from Toshiba, they just sell it. At Toshiba's website, there is NO support for HDD. Also, there are many reviews from many website that Toshiba don't want to support their customers, they just want to sell it.

2 - Put this HDD in the same height with your laptop, or a little bit lower than your USB port of your desktop computer. If not, it will work slowly, or for a long time your computer will say "Windows does not recognize it"

3 - Please do not use external electric socket for this product because it will affect its health and speed. I tested this HDD by using Ashampoo HDD control 2, so I can see that.

4 out of 5 eggsJust got one.

Pros: Very fast back up with included software. 460 plus gigabytes in just over two and a half hours. Only had the drive for 4 hours as of posting this review.

Cons: Software will not use this drive unless it is directly connected via USB. Made a backup with it connect via USB then transfered the cable to my routers NAS USB port. Windows finds it fine on the NAS connection and I can assign a driver letter to it. The backup software however will not use it over the NAS connection. NTI (the maker of the backup software) has a version that will although the one one included with the drive has same name and version number.

Other Thoughts: Fingers crossed given some of the poor reviews here.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: I got this at a great price. The drive works fine no hassles no worries even using Xp64. I use it as a Back up for Movies and animation. I transferred 480 gig from and internal drive to it using usb2 in less then 2 hours.

Cons: None at first I was worried about the Usb cable but Google shows more Usb 3.0 just like it. This has far less to do with My computer skills ( first build 1991 and hundreds since) but
more to do with my computer budget being zero $ for the last few years.

Other Thoughts: I used a 500 gig for a few years in a external case and on occasion in my computer. The drive still works good this drive seems every bit as nice and with the added bonus of being 6 times larger.
