4 out of 5 eggs3/4 good after 60 days, very good performance

Pros: Good price, good performance.

Cons: One failed already, (Device: /dev/ada4, 40 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors). Starting an RMA

Other Thoughts: These are installed into a freenas box with ZFS. Good thing its RAIDed, since one drive is biting the dust. This makes me nervous about the others, however.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost a year

Pros: Excellent hard drive. I have never had a problem with this HDD. Very quite and reliable. I have had this HDD over a year and its still going strong. Its fast, quite, reliable what more can you ask for in a hard drive

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Advice- If you are planning on using the full capacity of this drive (3tb) make sure that your operating system supports GPT disk format instead of MBR disk format. Also make sure that your motherboard has UEFI support for booting to the GPT disk drive. Most windows 8 systems utilize UEFI support. Very important to know if you want to utilize all 3tb. Hope this helps.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive failed after 95 days

Pros: Quiet drives and run great. So far fairly reliable.

Cons: I ordered two for use with a Vantec NexStarMX NST-400MX-S3R. I did a failry large backup to the Raid 1 Array comprised of two Toshiba PH3300U-1I72 3TB drives and one drive started knocking and failed shortly after. The Raid1 Array did not contain more than 1 GB of data prior to today.

Other Thoughts: I will have to go through Toshiba warranty to get this drive replaced. The warranty process for Toshiba is misleading. On the warranty paper it states you can file a claim online or over the phone, however they require the claim to be filed online and calling Toshiba is very useless.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after just over 1 year

Pros: Drive worked great until it didn't.

Cons: I've been using this in my HTPC for just over one year. All my TV shows were saved and watched off it. The drive was only 2/3TB full when it decided to get fat and lazy. The drive still shows up in W7 and I can browse it but it won't play any of my files.

When I try to backup the files the transfer rate goes fast for a few seconds but then drops to tens of kb/s and stays there, never finishing anything.

I had no power outages, I'm on a surge protector, and the PC was never shut off improperly. It worked well for the first year and then with no warning decided to die on me.

Other Thoughts: Don't get it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I purchased two of those in a four months gap, both work flawlessly so far (about a year +/-) I monitor them with HDSentinel Pro- 100% for both. run quiet and cool.
I use one as Media and the other as Export drive for my Premiere Pro editing which means they work hard every day and I think I'm also pleased with their performance.
The price is great and the packaging was great

Cons: Wee, the odd thing is on HDSentinel one is shown as TOSHIBA and the other HITACHI. I know there was a purchase somewhere between the two but as long as they are both perform well i don't really mind.

Other Thoughts: This is a great drive that I can recommend.
I see some bad reviews surrounding hard drives- one thing to remember is that Hard drives are very sensitive so you need a good power supply and UPS to keep your hard drives form damage.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy into the eggs

Pros: This is a great HDD. I bought one a year or two ago and it has served me well. See the 'cons' as to why it gets one egg.

Cons: So I needed another high-capacity HDD. I had bought the TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 in the past, and as I stated above it has performed like a trooper, so I looked towards Toshiba again. So I was between this unit or another DT01ACA300. Although slightly more expensive, I decided on this model based on the ratings.

Well, guess what? They are the EXACT SAME THING, right down to the packaging. My original DT01ACA300 arrived in the same "retail" packaging as this one did. Maybe something changed over the last year or so? IDK. Anyway, I am giving this one egg to try to bring that average down because it is misleading.

Other Thoughts: I don't get how two identical drives in the same packaging sold as different SKUs can have such drastic review differences. I'd return it for the cheaper one if I could, but I can't because it's installed. Running Si Sandra (see below) is when it all came to light. Newegg should credit/refund me the $13+ difference based on the current promo code, which would actually be $28.40 if I hadn't had a promo code on the original purchase.

TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 (3TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) : 3TB (M:) (O:)
TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 (3TB, SATA600, 3.5", 7200rpm) : 3TB (F:)

Pfft.

1 out of 5 eggsYear Old :: RMA Return

Pros: I have 6 drives in my machine, this is the only one that has ever failed. It's also my first Toshiba drive.

Windows is displaying a 'backup the drive it is failing error'.

So, I'm backing it up as I type this. Any drive that fails with potentially having 3 TB of data on it is a 1 star rating.

I'll also point out that this drive was not nearly as fast as advertised. The cache rate would slow to a crawl at times. My main drive is a SSD.

Cons: Fails in just over a year, slower cache than listed, RMA return process is never fun.

Other Thoughts: I'll be spending a lot of time on researching a new drive now that this big boy has failed.

1 out of 5 eggsKnow what you are buying into.

Pros: Lots of space, surprisingly fast and pretty quiet.

Cons: RMA process when it dies.

Other Thoughts: Thought I’d leave some feedback for would be purchasers. First and foremost these are relatively good hard drives when they work. Now for the gist of things, the RMA process through Toshiba is downright laughable. Go to the website enter your info you’ll be on the path for a quick return. Not so fast, apparently there are 2 different RMA departments that process claims and as I experienced after setting up a RMA I received a phone call stating my claim needed to be sent through the other dept as apparently their system isn’t programmed to direct you to the proper dept. in the first place, huh? But the kicker for me was the HDD that died was from the October 2013 batch and guess what so is this replacement. So either this is a refurb item (probably) or they just happen to have HDD a year old sitting on the shelf waiting for a RMA, well thank you Toshiba, way to take care of your customers.

1 out of 5 eggsOK Drive, lower capacity than stated.

Pros: Quiet, fast with 7200rpm and 64mb cache.

Cons: I got 5 of these drives and each one is only 2.75TB. Even without formatting the drive it only shows 2861459000, so there's no way it's a 3TB drive as stated. Unfortunate, as I needed a lot of space for a drive array; across 4 drive stripe I lose a full 1TB. Even in fake MarketyBytes it's not even 3,000,000,000, so it doesn't even fit in the scam of HDD mfrs. Should we be happy losing 1/4th of a terabyte of a drive ?

Other Thoughts: Drive works, but unhappy about space loss.
