4 out of 5 eggsFast and Slow at same time...

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive is pretty silent and get a good 190mb sequential read and write.

Cons: It can be pretty slow when doing 4k random write. As soon as the block are little bit bigger the speed increase to the same level as most competitor drive.
I think it's actually a feature because this drive stay quite silent for this task. So pretty sure it's part of the noise reduction system they use.

Other Thoughts: I do not think the slow 4k random write can affect overall performance as most file are usually a way larger than 4k. And it still beat my older drive that was a fast and noisy one. so

Unless someone is planning to copy a huge pile of really small files under 4k often. In this case it's not the best drive for the task.

5 out of 5 eggsNICE selection of a hard drive!!!!

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: very easy to install. I have an alienware aurora R3, and I had NO problems at all installing or cloning this drive. it was the easiest thing ever!

Cons: none at all, other than Toshiba's cloning software is all but non-existent, as well as their support. that's the fault of toshiba, not newegg. then again, this is a BARE drive. other than that (and those are LITTLE gripes), there are absolutely NO complaints at all!

Other Thoughts: I would absolutely purchase this again if I ever needed it, perhaps as a back up drive. I would, however, recommend using the free version of macrius reflect to clone this drive. it clones the drive perfectly, including the partitions that make it bootable, especially on dell devices (which just about every other program fails to clone to make it boot up). recommended to everyone that needs a larger drive with out paying the expense of getting a hybrid or SSD drive. unless you, for some reason, need something larger that a 2tb this is perfect for your needs!!!!

3 out of 5 eggsAverage quality, good price

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Low price.
- Mostly quiet and cool.

Cons: - Pretty slow compare to other models.

Other Thoughts: - If you just need a standard HDD for office work or otherwise, go for it. If you need a drive for gaming or more for performance, I wouldn't advise this product.

5 out of 5 eggsDoesn't get any better...

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The Toshiba 2Tb is the most reliable drive that I've used. I've never had one fail. It is not the fastest drive on the market but my primary concern is data preservation. Why bother with fast if it's not going to last...

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Buy it. The price is competitive. Delivery is quick

3 out of 5 eggsPretty good

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Decent speed

Cons: - na

Other Thoughts: Bought a few of these for a machine after having bought the "retail version" for one in the past. I assumed these were the same drives just without the retail packaging. I'm thinking differently after benching them.

Oddly enough, the retail version benched easily around 195-205MB/s both read & write and these only came in around 175MB/s. Still great performance but a pretty large gap when you consider the percentages. Since then I've only bought the retail version for a few more bucks.

Seagates are still the fastest & cheapest on the market, but least reliable as we all know. The retail version of these actually perform as well as the Seagates, so I highly recommend those. This version is close, but not quite there.

Hoping reliability is there with these.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat are ppl doing to this drive??

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good speed, quiet, cool, and long life. I will continue to by these DT01 drives as long as I can.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these DT01- series drives. 3x 2TB drives and one 3TB drive. My main 2TB drive has over 7000 hours on it and is used heavily for ripping/encoding movies. The other 2TB is connected to my DTV receiver and is heavily used every single day, it also has over 5000 hours of spin-up time. The 3rd one is in a media center computer and working well hosting all my movies on my network.
I will admit that it's not a great drive for DTV as it really needs a WD purple drive. But the amount of lag to play recordings is only a couple seconds slower.
My 3TB drive doesn't have a ton of hours. It's used in an external enclosure for all my movie and important file backup.

3 out of 5 eggsDied 2 months out of warranty

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Well guess I could be glad it lasted this long! Like the other this became a fuse or a hunk of metal just after the warranty period expired. This computer it was installed in was a HTPC that had lil use as I soon switched to single box solutions. I would turn this machine on once in awhile to update and back up data. Today guess what I found ? this dead drive in one of the bays. As a Failure Analysis Engineer I sure hate designs that only extend reliability to warranty periods

Cons: 26 month service life and I have to remember whatever other PC in the house I used these in to change them like Christmas bulbs!

Other Thoughts: Go Team!!

1 out of 5 eggslasted 2 yrs and 2 months!

This review is from: TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast when it worked.

Cons: Toshiba, get real. ive got 16 hard drives(company IT with own purchasing program with customer Data and purchase history. both sata and Ide almost 15 years old. that still work great. A employee was ringing a customer, and experence a lightning storm which is a common in this sunny state of fla, your drive died, and all info gone.

Other Thoughts: I will Definitely, Not purchase anything bearing the name of Toshiba 2 year Warranty good luck on trying to get it covered under warranty. Should have gone with Western Digital. Western Digital service is EXCELLENT, bar none!
