2 out of 5 eggsBad connections

This review is from: TOSHIBA Canvio Connect 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive HDTC720XK3C1

Pros: Lots of space.

Cons: The connection into the hard drive is terrible. It also is a unique connection, one I have never seen before so you cannot replace the cord or the connections easily. After only a few months of use the internal connection on the HDD became loose and the connection to the computer is sketchy. One little movement and the HDD will disconnect from the computer then reconnect, disconnect then reconnect.... Unless you enjoy that do not buy this hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Get an HDD that has normal connections so you can replace the cord or the internal connections easily.

5 out of 5 eggsDrive has integrated USB 3.0 port

This review is from: TOSHIBA Canvio Connect 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive HDTC720XK3C1

Pros: A sound external USB 3.0 drive with plenty of space in a small, portable package. Powered exclusively by USB port.

Cons: None, just wanted to comment on the internal drive for those who are wondering.

Other Thoughts: For those considering dis-assembly to use the enclosed HDD for something else, be aware that the drive has the USB 3.0 port integrated on the HDD circuit board. You cannot plug the physical drive into a SATA port (regular or laptop). If you're looking for a 2.5" 2TB internal drive with a SATA connector, the Canvio Basics 2TB drive is the one to choose. Also keep in mind that the 2.5" 2TB drives are about twice the thickness of typical "laptop" drives.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: TOSHIBA Canvio Connect 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive HDTC720XK3C1

Pros: Does everything it has been advertised to do

Cons: If I plug the hard drive in the usb port entirely, it will not be detected by windows nor linux. When insertting, I have to put the connector in the USB port about 80% of the way. (unlike all of my other USB devices)

When I safely remove the drive, I have to wait another 3-4 minutes so that the indicator LED shuts off completely. I will not have peace of mind when I take the hard drive out of the USB port when the light is blinking.

Other Thoughts: It comes with software completely useless to me

In case you are excited about the nice Toshiba logo lighting up when plugged in....not gonna happen

The cons I posted are not extremely difficult to deal with, that is why I will only penalize with one egg

5 out of 5 eggsGood external portable hard drive

This review is from: TOSHIBA Canvio Connect 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive HDTC720XK3C1

Pros: When connected to a USB 3.0 port this drive is very fast. I am streaming content from this drive on my PC to my Apple TV and this drive loads HD movies so fast. After 1 minute of starting an HD movie, It will have already been 75% loaded. The 2 TB of space on this drive is also nice since I mainly use it for HD Movies.

Cons: This drive will go to sleep after 5 minutes of being inactive. The start up is a little slow. If the drive is not on, and you select a song to play in iTunes, It will take about 5 seconds for the song to stop playing. The solution was to download free software to keep the drive from sleeping. Now it stays on all the time! This con was not enough for me to take an egg off and some people may actually appreciate the power saving feature.

Other Thoughts: I would take full advantage of the USB 3.0 for this drive. If you are hooking this up to a USB 2.0 port, then you are kind of missing the point of upgrading to the 10x faster USB 3.0 technology. You would be better off getting a USB 2.0 drive since the prices have gone way down.
