Other Thoughts: I don't *think* its malfunctioning or anything. It seems to work fine. Its just loud. Its the normal kind of grindy hard drive noise, but its much louder than any of my other drives. It kind of reminds me of an old IDE hard drive from the 90s, maybe worse.
Unfortunately I didn't get around to installing it within the return period. Its not the end of the world, and thankfully its not my system drive, but I think if I'd known it would be this loud I would have bought something else.

I have a 3 TB Toshiba 7200 rpm drive that I bought a couple years earlier, and its reasonably quiet.

Pros: - Just as quiet as any other hard drive I've used
- Very fast. I benchmarked both my 5TB Toshiba drives at 210 MB/s write. compared to 140MB/s on a 4TB seagate NAS edition, 125MB/s on a 3TB seagate desktop, and 95MB/s on a 1.5TB seagate from a few years ago
- 128MB cache is a huge bonus
- very well packed

Cons: None yet!

Other Thoughts: edit: after using them for a day I can say they are ever-so-slightly louder than a typical drive. not like you can hear them spinning all the time but when you make writes to them you can hear it sort of zapping that data to the platters. barely noticeable but it is there. even still, I just ordered two more of them because the price is just amazing on these.

Pros: Drive gives roughly 120 Mega-Bytes/second write speed. VERY QUIET in comparison to any hard drive that I ever had!! Just a whisper, which one can hear only if put their ear an inch from the bare drive. Even heads' movement is barely heard!

Cons: Display box with the drive was just TOSSED in a shipping box without ANY padding (What's happening with YOU, Newegg?!?). Luckily the drive in the display box was well padded by the manufacturer. Still... this is a HARD DRIVE and should have been packaged by Newegg more CAREFULLY!

Other Thoughts: I figured the reviews for this drive were VERY polarized. Many people were complaining about noisy drive, which does not last more than a week. Others were claiming it is a great HD! I decided it might be a poor QC issue and it might be Hit-Or-Miss. I took the chance and ordered this 5Tb Toshiba. I was lucky I received (RATTLING IN A SHIPPING BOX!!!, #@%$#@$Newegg!!!) a whisper quite drive which is capable of very high write speeds. Indeed I can not testify on the longevity of the drive, since I have had it for a less than a month. It has only 2 year of warranty as opposed to 3 years, which some other manufacturers warranty is. Hopefully it will live a long and healthy life! :-) I would recommend everyone to take a chance and buy this HD, BUT if you find it being NOISY, return it IMMEDIATELY! Noise is the first sign of HD dying.

Pros: +Fast sequential operations, nearly on par with basic SSD speeds

Cons: -Still has spinning disks
-Ticks pretty loud during sequential read/writes, titters and buzzes during random read/writes

Other Thoughts: For a 4TB drive, it's fairly cheap, considering how fast it is. You pay for that in noise: it reminds me, very slightly, of floppy disk behavior. It isn't loud enough to be indicative of a failing drive, but it is noticeable in a quiet room. Less so when the fans all spin up under load, but it's something to consider. Longevity might be an issue later. As it stands, though, I might buy more to replace my 2TB Seagates.

Pros: Fast, big, cheap storage with fast access. Quiet.
When first one did not work, Newegg sent me a new one. New one worked just fine. No hassles.

Cons: First one started losing data after a couple of days.

Other Thoughts: I have used Toshiba drives for a couple of years. Great bang for the buck.

Pros: Works Great so Far. Low price. Much faster that 5400 RPM drive it replaced. ( as expected ) Others have complained about noise, no louder than other drives.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: -Unlike some other reviews I read, mine is very quiet
-Runs cool
-Good Packaging (Had Bubble wrap surrounding the drive inside the HDD box)
-Average to good speed (150-190MBps)

Other Thoughts: had to rma my 1st drive as it was incredibly loud new drive arrived today and it is whisper quiet very satisfied

Pros: Installed quickly and very quite. Runs cool.

Pros: pretty fast and capacity is recognized with synology at 4.55tb which accounts for the the synology software.

Cons: it is incredibly loud. loud enough to hear about TV

Other Thoughts: put it into my synology 213. It works well, but seriously way too loud.
