5 out of 5 eggsVery good drive

Pros: Drive is cool, quiet and suprisingly fast. Haven't had one problem with it in over a year of heavy usage (40GB is plenty if you use large file server(s)). Will continue to buy Samsung drives.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this to check out quality of Samsung SATA 3G drives. So good I just received a 250GB Samsung SATA 3G to add to the workstation to use as a small media server. Newegg is the ONLY place to get gear. Haven't had a problem yet.

5 out of 5 eggsNice HD

Pros: Very quiet. Using in RAID0 configuration on Asus A8N-32SLI. Very cheap compared to WD Raptor and performance is on par.

Cons: Performance on par with raptor except for Random Access seek time (benchmarked with HD Tach)

Other Thoughts: Bought this HD in place of WD Raptor 10,000 SATA150. Well worth the price.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: We use Samsung drives as replacements in copy machines and printers. We have had very good success with them; minimal failures and few problems loading the software. Dollar for dollar, they are a very good value.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have installed personally over 80 Samsung HDD in copiers and have had no failures.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Reliability, this 40gig and the 20gig Samsung I bought new back in 2000 and 2001 are still working like new today. Incredibly, it wasn't noisy as Western Digital and Seagate are.

Cons: Over the years, I have been using these drives to make Symantec/Norton Ghost clones of thousands of customer's drives. I have seen a few instance the old PII/III and AMD K6-2 boards wouldn't recognize the Samsung drives at all. But for a lot of computers I'm working that are several years old, it's not a concern.

Other Thoughts: I don't know what Samsung did to make their drives the nicest one around but I like to note also that the drive feel cooler than Western Digital after a day's worth of cloning drives.

3 out of 5 eggsFast and quiet drive

Pros: It's fast and quiet-images are smooth and vibrant.

Cons: I had some difficulty getting Windows to install.Maybe because it was a "bare drive".I used a different utility to format the drive and it seemed to work better after that.

Other Thoughts: I don't think Samsung had a utility to format-- Ichecked their site.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Drives

Pros: Quiet, small, fast, cheap.

Cons: none?

Other Thoughts: I wanted a small raid0, so that it would be easy to keep it backed up. These did the trick, and they max at something like 105 MB/s sustained read. These things pretty much trounce the Raptors that I was considering in size, price, speed, and noise level. I don't know if I'd suggest one of these for your only drive, but I have ~2 teras in my fileserver, so I don't need loads of space in my desktop, and these fit the bill perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsWho needs a raptor?

Pros: Quiet, benchmarked pretty good compared to noisy Raptor.

Cons: Only 40GB, but cheap.

Other Thoughts: 37GB Raptor drive had virus so purchased this inexpensive drive while fixing old. The Samsung was so quiet and benchmarks were close enough for me to keep it and get rid of Raptor.

5 out of 5 eggsSata2 on a 3g board

Pros: I benchmarked 4 of these at raid0 on the same board against 4x rapture 10000rpm. The 4x sata2 drives were twice as fast. I guess 150 sata and sata2 drives are different. Even thiugh the rapture drives had faster seek rating the sata2 drives were considerably faster. Must put them in a sata2 3g bus though to get these results.Oh ya!!!!!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Very quiet and fast in raid0

5 out of 5 eggsGood HD

Pros: Have two in a RAID 0 (40+40GB is large enough for me). Fast and quiet. Inexpensive.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I have a third HD for backup, set up for automatic backup every night.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 4 months

Pros: Fast and Quiet when it worked.

Cons: Took 1 week to get an RMA from Samsung the another 2.5 weeks to recieve a new drive. From my experience this is the slowest turn around time by far.
