Best Value in Hard Drives
- Pros: Decent size, quiet, doesn't run really hot compared to some of my previous drives from other manufacturers. For the capacity this is an excellent value. Even drives half this size cost almost as much...
- Cons: I supposed I could always hope for RAID class drives at this price... but I can't really find anything to complain about.
- Other Thoughts: I now have 7 of these, and 2 Samsung Spinpoint Fs that are 1TB in size. The oldest drives are about 6 months old now. Connected to a mother-board that is properly set up for AHCI mode, they are fast. I had previously been using another brand, but then I read a comparison of different 1TB drives which convinced me to try Samsungs because they had a better feature set. Since then I've hardly looked at the other brands... I just go for the Samsung drives.
It's a hard drive, what can I truthfully say?
- Pros: Writes/ Reads fast, fast boot times. Cache could be larger, but for the price, it fits. Considering it is a Samsung, it is better then I expected.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: For a regular SATA hard drive, it writes/reads fast, and is better then many people expect. A definite buy if you cannot afford Western Digital drives. Samsung yet again has passed my expectations.
Great mid range hard drive
- Pros: These hard drives are fast, quiet and affordable! I have purchased over 100 Samsung Hard Drives and I am very pleased with each and every single one of them - I have NEVER - to this day - had a DOA HDD from Samsung!
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: If your looking for a HDD for your system, add on, run in Riad, or for primary use, these hard drives will do fin. I have 2 in Raid 0 with the following scores using HD Tune:
Read Minimum: 88.7 MB/s
Read Maximum: 161.0 MB/s
Read Average: 142.4 MB/s
Read Burst Rate: 145.3 MB/s
If you know your HDDs, you will see for a little over 100 you could put 2 in Raid 0 and be about 30% faster than a $220 VelociRaptor 300GB HDD.
As I said, I have purchased over 100 Samsung Hard Drives and NEVER had a single one DOA. Only one time I had a HDD that was not formatted, but I was able to format it no problem using the standard windows installation on any Windows OS. Once formated, I installed it as a secondary back up system in my main gaming rig. Samsung is the best! I also love their DVD Burners, etc!
