Pros: I went from a 7200RPM boot drive to this 5400RPM as my boot drive, and was seriously expecting slower load times, but to my pleasant surprise, I see very little difference between my other computer with a 7200RPM hard drive. Whether you are using it for a boot drive, or just to back up files, this EcoGreen HD will get it done.

Other Thoughts: It's kinda funny that I'm using a EcoGreen Samsung HD with a 450W gaming machine. Just trying to be more green, and save some too ;)

- Temperature is low ( by 5-8 deg C compared to WD disks)

Pros: cheap. got it for $50. I didn't really notice a difference going from 7200 to 5400RPM.

Pros: This is the second HD103SI that I have gotten. The first is still going strong. Got this because of a $15 off coupon code. That price was too good to not get.
Just like all other Samsung drives I have gotten, this is whisper quiet and runs very cool. That's why I put them in external USB/eSATA enclosures. I can enjoy cool, portable mass storage and get internal transfer rates through eSATA.
Benchmarks through eSATA show this starting at 101MB/s and ending around 40MB/s. That's quite good for a 5400RPM drive.

Cons: Haven't found one negative on any Samsung drive.

Other Thoughts: This is my 7th Samsung drive over 1TB in size in the past 1.5 years. I have been happy with all of them. If NewEgg ever has another coupon on this drive like this did last week I will definitely get another. Who can turn down this much storage at this price?

Pros: I got 4 of these on the cheap a while back to run in a Raid 5 on my home server. They have been running almost 24/7 since then (I don't even let them go to sleep for the sake of keeping good response times). Transfer rates tend to be over 50 megabytes / second. Hard to say what the limits are as gigabit ethernet can only do so much, and I haven't run any benchmarks.

Cons: I had to pay for them.

Pros: Cheap, large, reasonably fast, low temperature, low noise no issues.

Pros: Fast & cool runs at 39 C during file transfers. File transfers of 400gb in one move average about ~55 Mb/s and copying of data on the drive from within windows for 200 mb files is ~115 Mb/s

Cons: Not as fast as Spinpoint F3.

Other Thoughts: This is the first time purchasing a 5400 RPM hard drive and from what I can tell it performs better than the 500 GB 7200rpm maxtor (2008) drive it replaced.

Pros: Lots of storage, cheap. Drive has a good reputation for being reliable. Picked it up on special for $54 shipped.

Cons: Didn't come preformatted so I had to boot using a win 7 CD to partition the drive and format it for my system to recognize it.

Not really a fault of the OEM, and it's possible it's a problem with my system, so no eggs deduction, just something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: Dive is NOT the fastest, though I knew that going in. It's a 5400 RPM drive. That being said it's perfect for what I intend to use it for - network mass storage for digital media.

Sustained speeds of ~78 MB/sec. This is pretty solid for a 5.4K RPM drive.

Pros: When they work, they work.

Cons: Bought 4 of these based on the high ratings from here and other sites. 1 of the 4 arrived with failing the SMART test, so I had to RMA it. I've had all 4 running in a RAID 5 NAS for about 2 months, and 3 days ago the NAS notified me one of the drives again has failed the SMART test.

I removed it, tested it in a desktop, and still failed the SMART test. So it's useless and I cant RMA it because it's over 30 days old.

The thing that really sucks off is that I need reliable drives because I can't have my NAS down for more than a day or two - and when a drives die, I have to get new ones ASAP so there's no time to wait for an RMA if I could've gotten one, and especially not a manufacturer return.

Other Thoughts: I've had drives from WD and Maxtor for YEARS, and they've never once had an issue. Now with this, in less than 60 days, makes me definitely not trust them. I would go with a WD Caviar Black.

Pros: Low power consumption with low heat levels. Installed as a storage drive was recognized right off in disk management. Response is much better then i was expecting for an EcoGreen drive.

Other Thoughts: Says its a bare drive but does come with a screw packet and a small installation booklet.
