5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drives

Pros: Been using this in a Citrix Xen server environment, running 24X7 for the last 3 years, with no hitches.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: 2nd try with a Samsung drive. First was a while back, and it failed miserably. However, HD manufacturer's reliability seems to ebb and flow, and Samsung seems to have come a long way. Would definitely recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks.

Pros: Reliable, fairly quiet.

Cons: Not the fastest.

Other Thoughts: I've had this drive for over two years now, and it hasn't suffered a single blip. It's relatively quiet in that I can't hear it over anything else running in the case, and I've had no problems. It isn't the fastest, but I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Note that this is mostly just a constant storage drive that I watch video and play music from, but for that it's great.

1 out of 5 eggsBought 2 of these, problems 2 times

Pros: It seemed like a good drive when I bought it.

Cons: I have previously replaced this drive with Newegg when it was reporting bad sectors to me. The replacement also reported bad sectors as well. Other manufacturers drives (Hitachi, Western Digital) have been rock solid. Since I use these in a server I will not buy Samsung HDD's again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drives!

Pros: They are quite cool running compared to the old Seagates I replaced. SMART reports 28746 power on hours (3.28xx years!) -- with ZERO reallocated sectors -- for -8- drives, RAID5! Performance is very good, even when used as a single drive.

Cons: Seagate now manufactures Samsung disk drives.

Other Thoughts: One can't get 'real' Samsung disk drives anymore...

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung, the best drives ever

Pros: Quiet, reliable.

Cons: Samsung doesn't exist anymore, and seagate drives suck.

Other Thoughts: I've owned this drive for over 3 years.
My drive is one of the original drives made by Samsung before Seagate took over the Samsung drive product line and turned it into a disaster.
The guarantee recently expired and the drive is working just fine. My drive has low power on hours, so your mileage may vary.
Maybe i've been lucky, but i've never had a Samsung drive fail on me, and i've owned over 10 of them starting back in 2006 with a 160Gb drive.
I can truly say Samsung made the best hard drives.
Samsung was the king.. long live the King.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Price & Performance

Pros: Chose these drives for a home server on which I planned to run a relatively large RAID5 array.

Given the recent changes with Advanced Format drives I wasn't sure if I would have compatibility problems with drives that were using 4k sectors and the versions of Windows I was installing.

Since this drive was using 512 (or 512e?) formatting and had a URE (Unrecoverable Read Error) rate of 10^15 I decided to try them. (Now that Seagate has taken over Samsung I'm not sure the drives have a URE of 10^15 anymore?)

Drives have worked well.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought several Seagate 2 Tb drives. Out of 6 drives 3 had problems and had to be RMAd. Not sure if 2 Tb drives in general have more problems? Or if Samsung has more reliable drives than Seagate?

5 out of 5 eggs17 months

Pros: 17 months, still going. Have two in a Synology DS212j raid 1.
No errors yet, but it's time for a couple WD blacks. These are discontinued, and 18 months is my threshold to replace.
I'll probably move these to external drives and use them for a backup of a backup.

Cons: Discontinued.

Other Thoughts: Good drives, Seagate bought this division though. And the more I learn about Samsung, the less I like them. So I won't be buying anymore of their products anyhow, even if they still made these.

1 out of 5 eggsDied in 1yr

Pros: It was cheap and spacious.

Cons: I bought this in 07/1/11, it died in 7/11/11.

Exactly 1 year and 10 days later... Ubuntu started posting slow startup times... I remember reading that slow spinups were a feature to the EcoGreen Drives. I was wrong. It died about 2 weeks after the SMART messages.

I'm pretty careful with my hardware, making sure it stays cool, and never handling it with my bare hands without a static wristwrap. This is the first time a drive has failed on me after 1 year.

A lot of people are reporting failures after a year. There's obviously a design flaw with these HD's. Be warned!

Other Thoughts: I'll spend a couple bucks more for reliability's sake and do more research next time. What a waste of $ in this day and age. I still have drives that have lasted through 2 PC builds (+9 years). This one died after some minor archiving.

4 out of 5 eggsJust in Time for Warranty

Pros: It's a big drive. It easily held my entire media collection.

Warranty was good. Three years is good warranty period. The return process was pretty easy. The HD was in the mail within an hour of calling support.

Cons: It didn't run as cool as I thought it should. The Mvix was always burning hot to touch.

It failed rather quickly.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for an Mvix Ultio in 2009. It worked for about six months and then it started locking up randomly. I blamed the Ultio until I pulled the drive out and stuffed it in a PC, installed Win7, and got an HD failure warning.

Apparently, Samsung hard drives are supported through Seagate.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed just inside warranty - amazing!

Pros: Quiet, cool. RMA process OK, a little slow.

Cons: Installed in Synology Disk Station from new. Synology reported disk crash after about two years. Rebooted, all seemed OK. Then, a few weeks later, another disk crash with wonky SMART data. Can't access data, although sounds fine. SeaTools (Samsung HDD line bought by Seagate) reports errors, RMAed. Now have RMA replacement as identical model but refurb. What to do? Try refurb or buy WD for backup? 1st HDD failure in MANY years, disappointing
