Died after 2 month
- Pros: I was one of the first to get one of these drives. I was impressed with it and bought two more.
- Cons: After 2-3 months, wham, the 1st drive went bad quickly. Using Hard Disk Sentinel I was alerted that the drive was having issues (1 min SMART is 100% later min 75%, then 50%, then 0%). I was lucky that I could retrieve some of my data before the drive went belly up.
- Other Thoughts: My RMA experience has been less than stellar. My 1st & 2nd RMA re-certified drives didn't work. The RMA place doesn't package the drives well and doesn't respond quickly to email. I've been in this loop for about a month and am still waiting to get a working drive. A $100+ drive isn't worth all the time needed to explain the problem, re-package the drive, go to the postoffice or UPS, wait around for a "signature required" package to arrive, re-test, discover that Samsung's "re-certified" drive really means someone else's broken drive.
Very nice so far
- Pros: Runs really cool, transering files and drive is currently at 33c. My idle Seagate external is 37c, and another seagate external i just transferred file from is 52c. And it's been idle for about 10mins. So yeah i like these drives alot. I purchased 4 of them and put them in Rosewill RX35-AT-SU BLK Aluminum 3.5" Black USB 2.0 External Enclosure's. So that might be partly why they are running so cool.
- Cons: Data transfer rates on USB is 16-21mbps. Not really the fault of the drives but it sucks anyways.
- Other Thoughts: Considering none of my other 7 hard drives run as cool as these 4, i might need to invest and replace all my drives with these. But that will come after at least a few months to see how these drives hold up.
Quiet and fast
- Pros: Works perfect, absolutely no problems at all. Quiet. Even when dragging 50GB+ of movies back and forth, no issues.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Actual size is 1.36TB, which is to be expected, depending on how you format it.
