1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: It was great until it crashed!

Cons: It crashed on me within a few months of usage. I see that lots of people have had issues with this particular drive. I don't recommend purchasing it.

3 out of 5 eggsSamsuck?? pt 2

Pros: This one works, newegg's RMA painless.

Cons: Doubts about longevity, PS3 installation somewhat in depth compared to other brands?

Other Thoughts: This is part 2 of my previous review, my RMA went through flawlessly and quickly, but that's what I expect from Newegg anyway. Received my new one and installed in my PS3, I'm not sure if all drives require a reflash of FW to the unit but this one did. The instructions that I saw from Sony and independent sites say to backup, install, then restore and you're on your way. My install took an additional step, I had to find a FW file, put that onto a USB stick (PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) then reflash and finally restore. Before that was done my PS3 just displayed a FW not found message with no insight as to where to find one and the backup I made apparently didn't include it. The restoration took around an hour and a half with a 20GB restore file from my old drive, so plan accordingly. With that said, I'm happy with it so far.

2 out of 5 eggsDrive is fair at best

Pros: I'm sure a working version of this drive would be fine.

Cons: unfortunately I did not receive a working version of this drive. This speaks poorly of this model indicating either that the model is defective or the drive has been subjected to separate abuse either in the Newegg warehouse or while it was shipped. The point of concern here is that laptops typically get some abuse and what may indicate that this drive is a bit more sensitive than others.

Other Thoughts: All in all My opinion is just describing one experience with one drive. This could just be a fluke. I deal with HDD's like this every day though and I seldom see failures like this. I have RMA'd my drive and will recieve a new one, hopefully not the same one, though I am willing to give this another shot.

2 out of 5 eggsSamsuck?

Pros: remain to be seen

Cons: DOA out of the box, powers up but not seen by my PS3, PC, or external housing. My first Samsung, I should've known better and stuck with WD. Sent for RMA exchange. Will update with a good review hopefully.

Other Thoughts: I really should've known better, I used to be a mobile phone dealer and avoided Samsung like the plague, they always came back. Nothing but problems with them. If I was thinking clearly I would've done the RMA for money back and bought a Western Digital for my PS3. I still have my first WD drive from 7 years ago and it's still going strong in my Puppy Arcade box.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst Samsung Letdown

Pros: Fast, quiet, Samsung branded, relatively inexpensive.

Cons: This is the first Samsung drive I've had fail in my 10 years of using them. This drive was incredibly fast and very quiet when it worked. Ran for 4 days without any issues whatsoever. On the 5th day, the computer was switched on, took about 20 minutes to boot the operating system and then commenced destroying all data it touched on the drive. First Samsung drive I've ever had fail......what a letdown!

Other Thoughts: I'll have to bite the bullet on this one and assume it's just a fluke drive. I have over 100 Samsung drives in the field, and in 10 years this is the first I've ever had fail.

4 out of 5 eggsReview correction

Pros: Relatively cheap.

Cons: Not backward compatible with SATA 1.5 Motherboards, slow RPM for the price.

Other Thoughts: I sent back two of these thinking that they were DOA, but the drive simply wasn't compatible with SATA 1.5 motherboards. Big dissapointment, given that my WD 250GB SATAII 3GBs automatically set itself to 1.5GBs for non SATA II motherboards.
