5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Been using this as a PVR for years, never failed. Controllable light is a plus.

Cons: Bit clunky looking and large, but for 2009 it was the standard size for this size.

Other Thoughts: Samsung makes quality products.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years of occasional use

Pros: Large drive for money

Cons: Died after 2 years of very occasional use.

Other Thoughts: Backup was slow. Something this low tech should last for than a couple years. Now what? Send it back for some geek to grab all my personal information? Yeah..

3 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Its a good external, and for me it had no problems. It ran great, never had file loss.

Cons: Its bulky, and you have to also plug it in to the wall. Its a hassle to plug it in to the wall also well as the computer if you are travelling a lot.

Other Thoughts: Since technology is moving so fast invest in a newer version that allows 1TB to run with just a usb.

1 out of 5 eggsdied after 6 monhs

Pros: It was nice while it lasted.

Cons: About 6 months after purchase the disk would not spin and no light, power supply was dead.

Other Thoughts: The good news is that it was a SATA drive that was fine. Added a new USB enclosure(voiding the warranty) but easier than talking to Samsung tech support. Luckily no data was lost. A dead PS that quickly, I highly recommend looking elsewhere than Samsung Story Station

2 out of 5 eggsWas Amazing and did everything i needed it to do...for a while.

Pros: Although I only put this HHD to very light use, it did everything I needed it to do. I simply stuffed it with things i wanted to keep safe, along with all my music. It wasn't as fast as I hoped for it to be, but its speed wasn't much of a problem.

Cons: After I stuffed the Hard drive, i didn't really need to use it much, so it went through very light use. After about 3 months of it being left alone it would not turn on. The light flickers on and off for about 3 seconds then stays off and it seems I have no more access to the files i wanted to keep safe. Lasted a little under a year and then it randomly died.

Other Thoughts: I honestly have no idea why it might have died, maybe collected too much dust from not being used enough? but either way this is just one bad experience, and I'm sure may other have had this HHD without it dieing for well over a year.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cant suggest this to anyone else. Only lasted 1 week. All data lost.

Cons: Product only worked for 1 week. Would not pwr/on. Swapped out power adapter plug to drive and still no power. Lost 50 gig of data.
BUT, Newegg shipping GREAT...

Other Thoughts: Now have Free agent drive. Works great.

2 out of 5 eggsRibbett

Pros: Worked out of the box on my mac mini.

Cons: Croaked after 6 months. Still lit up but was not recognized on any of the 3 computers I connected it to. Was getting an error on unable to backup. So, I called tech and it was very good understandable English - problem is that I went through 4 different techs before they finally tell me that it is a bad drive. The only reason they don't get a 1 is that they have clear English speaking techs that answer fairly soon even if they do shuttle you from one tech to another.

Other Thoughts: Bravo for English speaking techs that you can understand.

1 out of 5 eggsDIED AFTER 9 MONTHS

Pros: Good capacity.
Good price.

Cons: Died after 9 months.

Other Thoughts: This drive worked flawlessly for 9 months with light use. Then, it just wouldn't turn on any more. I contacted Samsung's customer service and found that my data wouldn't be transferred to a replacement drive. I looked around and found a guy on an auction site to recover my data for me for $14.95. I will not buy another Story Station.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ext. HD for Wii

Pros: Works seemlessly with WFSB backup loader for the Wii. Great for loading backups of your games (my son always scratched up the DVD's).

Cons: Haven't really run into any.

3 out of 5 eggsSLOOOOWWWWW

Pros: Elegant, simple, sturdy design. Always works, just not very quickly.

Cons: I bought this drive thinking it would be on the fast end of external USB drives, given what's inside and the new design. Turns out it's noticeably slower than my WD MyBook and Seagate free agent go (which is a 2.5" 5400rpm portable). Very disappointed by the performance.

Other Thoughts: I guess it would be good for an occasional backup drive...if you've got a few hours to kill.
