1 out of 5 eggsWill fail on you; bad

Pros: Stylish, light

Cons: Failed within a month

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't light up after working OK for 3 weeks so I looked at RMA-return options but I had thrown the package away (assuming it would work correctly!). Opened it since many say it's only the enclosure that fails. Well it's not even spinning when I hoop it up so it looks like a complete 100$ waste. When reviews are bad, one simply shouldn't buy. Beware! But why are there so many unreliable hard drives on NewEgg?

2 out of 5 eggsFail to Launch

Pros: Looks Sleek
Stays Cool
On/Off Feature + LED control

Cons: Sort of died within the first week, Luckily I can RMA it for another one which I hope to have more success with.

Just simply was doing a normal File transfer to it, and it just shut down mid transfer, and after that it won't turn back on. If I leave it unplugged say overnight I could get it to turn on for a couple minutes, but leaving it unplugged for like 5 minutes it would only turn on briefly before dieing from something that looks like lack of power. Not to mention making weird noises.

1 out of 5 eggsstopped working after 8 months

Pros: cheap, good looking

Cons: stopped working after 8 months, turned itself off 3 seconds after I turned it on

Other Thoughts: Luckily, it seems as though only the enclosure is dead; the HDD works as an internal drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: Great stuff! Here's why:
- high transfer rate - 40MB/s sustained - FAT32 transferring from Linux 2.6.32 via USB 2.0
- You can easily format the drive (and get rid of the software) to something that supports larger files (e.g. ext3, NTFS, etc)

Cons: The drive puts itself to sleep quickly. By the time you find the next file to chuck onto the harddrive, the drive has put itself to sleep already. It takes a few seconds for it to spin up again.

Other Thoughts: The power switch is actually a knob (which you can turn up to 11) which controls the brightness of the LED. It's a great placebo for making your harddrive go faster! You should try it yourself!

1 out of 5 eggsSad, but familiar "STORY"

Pros: Makes a stylish paperweight

Cons: Broke after 3 months

Other Thoughts: I used one of these drives for backups. It lasted only 3 months before it got the dreaded "click of death" failure. I RMAed it through Samsung, who replaced it with a 2TB drive (woohoo!). Unfortunately, this replacement unit is faulty as well-- it sometimes powers itself off and I can't get it to turn back on without removing and reinserting the USB cable multiple times.

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT! NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!

Pros: NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER!!! Spent hours reading all the "Cons" reviews and when i got mines there was none! I think the people with broken drives simply don't know how to use them. Read the manual people! It's there for a reason! Teaches you how to not break it the first week! I noticed one of the bad reviews the guy says he broke the first one then he returned it and a week later he breaks the second one, what's suspicious is he claims he did all that in a week...hmmm...unless you're superman you must be lieing. He also promotes Western Digital, probably works for them or something. Anyways...the Samsung works totally fine, so long as you don't abuse it like the "Conners" did. The wires are hardly short, unless you're trying to make fishing wire out of it, no idea what those guys were trying to do. I got this on sale for $90 dollars (6/30/10) It had a $50 discount. Got it in 1 day. The packing...FLAWLESS! Enjoy your Samsung!

Cons: why is this question even here? is there suppose to be a con?

Other Thoughts: As for the power button, it's Awesome! Who pulls out the plugs anymore? This is the new style and much more convenient way. It's strong, not anything like the "Conners" said. Doesn't stick out that far, just the right size for your fingers. No idea how the "Conners" could of broke it, unless they purposely throw it against the wall. Turn it off often unless you wanna come back here saying..."Like...oh my gosh...it suddenly died on me." Answer: Cause you never turn it off! Also these drives are not attached to your mobo like the internal drive so it's not recommended for high proformance apps and games. Don't just plug in a usb device and start playing Age of Conan on it cause it will wear...and it will tear...and youll be here...bo..who...bleh.bleh.bleh. Store them, don't Sore them. If you're gonna store huge movies dont do it all at once and kill it. If you think it's slow, go for a faster drive and it'll die even more faster! But that's what you wanted right? faster?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive!

Pros: Extremely fast, very quiet, and plenty of storage.

Cons: The programs included are quite useless for the average user, but they're not a problem.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I love the drive. I haven't used it much yet, but it's more reliable so far than many I have purchased before.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good. No problems.

Pros: I bought this external HDD in Oct. '09. Used on daily basis since then without issues. Looks good, its quiet and it just works. As advertised.

Cons: None, except my whole system waits while this drive is accessed (its not the primary drive). Five seconds max, though I still don't know why everything accesses through this, even web browsing.

Other Thoughts: Quiet, dependable, economical and stylin' appearance make this drive an attractive option.

3 out of 5 eggsGood product-while it lasted

Pros: Fast and dependable, while it lasted

Cons: Died after 7 months, no power

Other Thoughts: Bought it in October 2009, died in May 2010. Was dependable until I realized it wasn't showing in my list of drives. Under warranty but if I send it in, I lose 1.5 TB of data. I have another Samsung Story drive from January, hope it lasts a little longer. May have to salvage the drive out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job

Pros: Does what the manufacturer claims. Decent speed over USB

Cons: Wish this was USB 3.0!

Other Thoughts: We use this drive as a portable backup drive so we can store data off site. It always works.
