4 out of 5 eggsIt is what it is

Pros: nice portable drive, came with a free case, pretty fast. decent software but mostly just plug and play

Cons: not usb 3.0 but superspeed usb 2.0.

Other Thoughts: still a good buy if wanting to just hold files. i got it for free in a combo deal but still decent nonetheless. The free case was unexpected.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Does what it should. The bundled software has some neat features that work well, such as creating and editing partitions, but falls short in other areas. It looks nice and has held up to being carried in my backpack for 6 months.

Cons: - Short USB cable
- The encrypting feature in the bundled software doesn't get along well with Windows 7 and 8.

Other Thoughts: If you want portable storage that looks good and at a reasonable price, this is the device for you.

1 out of 5 eggsPurchase Cautiously

Pros: Small, sleek, and from a historically dependable brand.

Cons: -The software didn't execute as it was supposed to.

Upon plugging it in, the autoplay didn't run. I tried to manually run the autoplay, but it seems the developers didn't commit it as an executable and all I got was half of the code. This wasn't a big deal - I just ran the individual executable.

Once the device manager software was installed, I tried to setup a backup session. It prompted me for a password, and upon my entering a password, the program froze and crashed. I tried every possible password combo of letters, caps, numbers, and characters, all of them returned the same issue.

I probably just got a software fluke, so I'm not bitter about it, but it was enough for me RMA the drive and pick a different one.

Other Thoughts: It was attempted on Windows 7 (supposedly supported)

4 out of 5 eggsBio

Pros: Physically small size, cheap. Only uses one USB port. Works with USB 2.0.

Cons: Kinda slow on USB 2.0 for me. It took me like 6 hours to fill it with 130 GB of stuff. Seems to be formatted for PC use only.

Other Thoughts: This hard drive has a really well designed enclosure, it may even be a little smaller than a WD passport enclosure, which is great. It comes with an 18" USB cable which is long enough for most typical things. Some hard drives unfortunately occupy two USB ports. This one doesn't, it only occupies one, so that's good. You also get this fake leather case with this hard drive. I'm sure it's not all that durable, but initially it looks pretty convincing in regards to being real leather, and it protects the enclosure from scratches. Most hard drives don't come with cases, and you can throw it away if/when it wears out.

I bought this hard drive mostly to go with my PC computers, but I tested it with my Mac too, and it didn't work very well. With some work, I could probably reformat it to work with both, my initial attempts to do this were not successful, and I didn't retry, because it wasn't all that important to me.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat external for the money

Pros: Cheap, good construction, name brand manufacturer.

Cons: While a "name" brand, Samsung doesn't have the panache of WD or Seagate.

Other Thoughts: I typically buy WD hard drives only. But I needed a new external for basic data transporting and this Sammie was on sale. I've had good luck with other Samsung drives, so I was more than willing to give it a shot, especially with its 3 year warranty. So far, so good - works great and it's smaller and faster than my old WD Elements drive it replaced.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Using this to backup my laptop. The case is plastic, but built well. The unit is quiet and easy to carry around. The USB cable is a good length at about 15 inches.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The hard drive came with a little vinyl carrying case. The case was very snug at first, but seems to have broken in a little bit over time making it easier to use. The vinyl case is purely optional and is not necessary to transport the unit.
