3 out of 5 eggsLarge for laptop drive but slow seek speeds

Pros: Definitely big for a laptop drive. Priced right.

Cons: Non-standard height doesn't fit into some laptops. Slow seek times cause sub-par user experience.

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace a 160gb 7200rpm drive I mistakenly bought for a Mac Mini - I had meant to buy a larger drive. The drive fit with some coaxing into the Mini but it was a tight fit. The seek times are so slow that when I upgraded to Lion I got the spinning colored pinwheel of death so often that I decided to go back to the 160gb 7200rpm drive and use an external drive for file storage.

2 out of 5 eggsseemed like a good buy...

Pros: HUGE storage for a laptop!
Easy install

Cons: Drive is kind of slow

Other Thoughts: After having this drive (1TB 12.5mm 2.5" notebook drive) in my 13" 2010 Macbook Pro Unibody for about 3 months, it crashed on me. Unfortunately I had not done a backup for about 2 months, so I lost a fair amount of data. I restored everything from the backup (Time Machine), and since then it has been showing "SMART Status" was "failing". I contacted Samsung, they told me to wait for it to die again. WHAT??? So, I have been continuing to use it in my Macbook Pro since it failed 5 months ago, doing a daily backup of the drive. It is still showing Smart status as "failing". I recently tried to update my OS to Lion, and it won't because of the error.. so now Samsung wants to RMA it.. but that means I will be without a laptop for up to 2 weeks while I wait for them to replace my drive for me... I'm not happy.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit in PS3 Fat Version CECHA but with a 22 pin SATA Male to Femal cable... it Works!!!!!

Pros: This hard drive is compatible with my PS3 Fat Version CECHA 60gb hd featuring the Kmew 3.55 CFW rebug but would not fit in the hard drive bay due to the height of the drive. I did not want to remove the warranty sticker or modify the outside PS3 case. So after a month of searching the internet and youtube for instructions on how to get the ps3 to recognize the hard drive, I finallly just ordered a 22 pin (7+15) SATA Male to Female DATA and Power Combo Extension Cable off a popular online auction site. Here is a link to see what the cable looks like: http://www.chinabuye.com/15-7-pin-22-pin-male-to-15-7-pin-female-sata-serial-ata-power-cord-cable. If the link is broke check the website named after a popular rainforest, key word, "NSI LK-13815 22-pin (7+15) SATA Male to Female DATA and Power Combo Extension Cable".

Cons: When I first bought this hd I was really frustrated and almost returned it to Newegg becuase I could push the Samsung HM100UI 1TB drive in the PS3 hard drive bay without the hard drive caddy but the PS3 would not recognize it. The PS3 just kept prompting a error message "correct hard disk not found". The only solution, other than removing the warranty sticker and opening the PS3, was to order a 22 pin (7+15) SATA Male to Female DATA and Power Combo Extension Cable off a popular online auction site that rhymes with e-hay. After I turned on the PS3, much to my suprise, it recognized the hard drive right away. Aside from the jerry-rigged cable hanging out my PS3, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Other Thoughts: It was much easier just using the 2TB external seagate hard drive but some games require an internal hard drive formated to FAT32 will split some larger sized files on games such as Grand Turismo 5, Metal of Honor, Lego Batman, Uncharted, Kill Zone 3, ect. A 750GB hard drive would probably been more than enough but who wants to brag out 750GB when you could have a Samsung HM100UI 1TB, right?

3 out of 5 eggsFits fine in MacBook Pro, but Samsung denies it exists

Pros: Fits perfectly fine in 2010 MacBook Pro 15".

Cons: Samsung's web site has no support pages for this model, and any searches on their site tell me that this drive does not exist.

After a week, all my apps would occasionally all SPOD at once. Someone said to change the jumpers to reduce the interface speed from 3.0Gb.s to 1.5Gb/s. I could not find any documentation anywhere on what jumpers to set.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with DL360G6

Pros: I purchased this drive after testing a few other brands. This drive does not make your fan speed increase with the HP DL360 G6 since.

Cons: Pricey, waiting for another sale to buy 3 more.

4 out of 5 eggsBEWARE ITS NOT A COMMON HEIGHT!

Pros: Great drive for the price. It does exactly what i need it to do for my macbook

Cons: I had to dremel a small part of my macbook pro (late 2006 model) and move around the ribbon cable, to make this fit.
*BEWARE IT IS NOT A COMMON HEIGHT OF THE 2.5" hard drive. it is about 3/16 thicker. so if you are buying an enclosure to go with it. make sure it accepts larger ones.

4 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Fit Dell M6500

Pros: Most likely a great drive, but finding something to put it in may be a problem.

Cons: I bought this for use as a storage drive in the second slot of my Dell M6500. Not really the drives fault, but it doesn't fit. I have yet to find an external enclosure of small size that it will fit into.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as Expected

Pros: Purchased 2 of these to do a raid 0 for a NAS backup. After the initial setup in Ubuntu 10.10 in a software raid 0, the drives have been running uneventful.

In a software raid 0, I have benchmarked the reads of min: 85.8 MB/s, max: 195.8 MB/s, and an average of 144.5 MB/s. Which is IMO very good for these drives.

Under full write load for over an hour these things run pretty cool @ 102 deg F. (my OS Velociraptor 150GB runs normally @ 100 deg F.)

Cons: They are a bit thicker than a normal 2.5, but for my use it did not matter. Had to modify the 2 x 2.5 to 3.5 cage slightly for them both to fit. The cage is designed for 2 x 2.5 typical drives.

Other Thoughts: I am doing an rsync clone backup of my 2TB FreeNAS to my desktop where these drives are installed in a raid 0. This is a great backup solution of my NAS. There are certainly pros and cons of using a NAS; easy access to all your stuff, but all your eggs are in one basket and if it goes down, so does all your eggs. Now I can sleep a little better knowing all my stuff is backed up.
