SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Pros: Lots of capacity, reasonably fast.

Cons: One of the two drives I bought is dead after about 7 months of light use. The other shows about 35 million errors on the SMART test.

Other Thoughts: The Samsung web site doesn't show this drive any more (actually, it doesn't show any non-SSD drive as far as I can tell), so I've found no easy way to ask them to replace the dead drive under warranty. I will have to call them and sit on hold, which sucks.

Pros: Good drive, has been reliable so far, had it ~ 8 months, no issues. Installed, formatted, and use it for storage of Media

Cons: Takes maybe 5 seconds to spin up sometimes, but its not a big deal, its not my main drive, just for storage. Cant really complain as its going to standard, just 1st world problems

Pros: This hard drive has been very reliable for me. Had it for about two years and is still stronger than ever.

Some of the best drives I have used.

Cons: S.M.A.R.T. has been giving me errors about the disk, but nothing serious.

Other Thoughts: Wish they were not discontinued :(

Pros: The price was awesome at the time I purchased this a year ago.

Cons: Only lasted 1 year and a day!
That's 1 day past the 1 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: Unlike the other Samsung F4 drives I purchased in the past, this drive is a rebranded/cobranded drive from Seagate. I would have never purchased this drive if I would have known it was made by Seagate. Every Seagate drive I've ever owned has died shortly after the warranty period, but this is definitely the closest to the deadline that I've ever seen. Total piece of garbage. Stay away from Seagate!

Pros: Lasted 2 1/2 yrs -This drive was originally the SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s drive.

Original drive had a 3 yr warranty - I just beat the warranty by 7 months before it barfed.

Cons: I'm sure everyone has already noticed that hard drives just aren't what they used to be. While 2 1/2 yrs isn't "too bad" for the life of a hard drive today, I just pulled my case open to find out I still have 2 Diamond Max Maxtors 200 GB that I purchased in 2006! That's 7 years life. They are still humming along at a dreadfully slow pace, but I use them for backups AND they haven't died.

Other Thoughts: I have changed the way I manage my hard drive inventory and I've also started to use RAID 0. I've ordered 6 new hard drives in the past week as well as a new build. I'm going to keep a few drives on the shelf so that I continue to get my work done. The biggest disappointment I have with the hard drives of recent is they just waste so much of your time in repairs. It's a shooting match when you buy a drive today.

In one week I lost 3 drives in the same system and I have a dependable UPS so I know it wasn't a power spike.

Also had to return a TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB that was DOA the other day. This is the FIRST time I received a DOA drive so from reading all of the other horrors I consider myself lucky.

Cons: VERY low hours on this drive... and it has failed 3-years later.

Pros: Bought 3, and they worked great in a RAID 6 Synology NAS (with a mix of WD Red/Green drives) while they lasted. Thank goodness for RAID...

Cons: 1 of the drives died out right (click of death) at the 8 month mark. The other 2 got smart errors within a few weeks and are also about to be replaced.

Other Thoughts: At least their RMA process is easy.

Pros: have it in a 24/7 htpc, i filled it up with movies, definitely going to buy another

Pros: Good while it lasted...

Cons: I have owned this drive since 9/2011 and it worked great until about a month or so ago I would see random artifacts from my videos stored on it. Now Windows 8 keeps warning me to back this drive up because it keeps failing... :(

I have other big drives all 1TB that I have had for almost 3 years now and a lot more use and they are still working great.
