2 out of 5 eggsOnly lasted 18 months

Pros: I own an older Macbook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Model identifier 4,1). It lasted well for 18 months and was relatively cheap (~$100 at the time).

Cons: It only lasted 18 months, 6 months short of Samsung's warranty. At first my computer would freeze every week or so and have to be manually restarted. Then my computer would no longer boot all of a sudden.

Other Thoughts: I was told to go to Samsung's technical support, which then sent me to Seagate's technical support. There they would replace my hard drive, but it would take weeks and why would I want the same hard drive that failed? I'm going to try a different brand.

1 out of 5 eggsdefective; did not work from git-go...:(

Pros: price of 59 dollars

Cons: non-functional. could not install win7 myself, local dealer could not install win7---took two months to get a replacement from Samsung--replacement works fine (4-stars)--but i suppose they bothered to inspect this one!

Other Thoughts: long after purchase, got great deal. only would have been nicer without the long, long annoying delay prior to installation of win7 on hd

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: Flawless performance

Cons: Pricey, but you get what you pay for

Other Thoughts: At the time I bought this it was a great deal, but the price drops quick on HD or size increases. Bottom line, I buy it again if I needed it. I guess thata all I need say !

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive so far, but not Samsung.

Pros: Works fine, haven't had any issues yet. Bought a 120 Gig PS3 Slim because I knew I'd be upgrading. Installed this into said PS3 without a problem.

Cons: Not really a con per se, but the drive that came wasn't a Samsung, I got a Seagate but that's not really surprising since they're one and the same now.

1 out of 5 eggs3 out of 4 drives failed

Pros: None

Cons: The first drive arrived DOA - wasn't recognized by the sata controller and clicked abnormally. The second 2 failed Seagate's diagnostic test with bad sectors shortly after installation (They could have been bad right out of the box). The fourth drive passed the diagnostic test, but I'm concerned that it may fail shortly based on the other failures.

1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Hmm...

Cons: Bought two of these drives together with external cases. One was DoA (dead-on-arrival). NewEgg sent a replacement. I've used one for about a month and it seems to work just fine. Was just going to start using the 2nd one - broken. When I put the drive close to the ear I can hear how the read arms are trying to find a track (like a whispering click-of-death sound).

Other Thoughts: I've bought several drives (via NewEgg) over the years, but this is certainly my worst experience this far.

Maybe I'm unlucky, but I'm certainly not recommending this drive to colleagues and friends.

2 out of 5 eggsMeets expectations [UPDATED]

Pros: It's been working just fine in my HP laptop for a month now. It's not 7200RPM with a 32MB cache, so don't buy this expecting a hot rod.

Cons: UPDATE - Failed after six months. Apparently, the faint, random clicks it's always had were not part of normal op. Seagate has Samsung recerts in stock, so they sent me one without the clicking noise. It might be a used HDD, but hopefully the recertification process tested it completely.

Other Thoughts: Don't try to get support from Samsung, because they sold their HDD division to Seagate. Initially, I had a hard time registering the product at either website, but Seagate now considers my serial number a "Momentus" drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGood replacement drive for the Playstation 3.

Pros: A quiet drive and a decent price for the amount of storage.

Cons: None, so far.

Other Thoughts: As many others have noted, Samsung's HDD department was acquired by Seagate, so I actually got a Seagate drive (I don't know why Newegg still lists this as a Samsung drive). Other than that, I am happy with my first time purchase.

I got this drive as a storage upgrade for my PS3's stock 120 GB drive. It has been exactly one month since I've had the drive and there have been no problems. I was a little hesitant at first when I read about some of the problems that others had, but I haven't had any problems with my Seagate 1 TB external drive, so I decided to go for it.

I also bought an enclosure for my PS3's old drive, so I can use it as a backup for my games and save data.

I plan to write a follow up after more time has passed with the drive.
