4 out of 5 eggsNeed help?

Pros: Nice item, fast. Good price.

Cons: Some people might return this as DOA because it arrived uninitialized or formatted. Windows couldn't see it. If it happens to you with any HDD, click on Start and type in Disk Management.

It will show you your HDD's and you go all the way to the left of the graphic for this one, right-click and choose "Initialize." Next right-click again and choose "create volume" or "create partition" and it will do the rest. Very quickly it will show as a formatted drive with a drive letter.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me, even with other brands and vendors so it's nice to know how to manage it.

5 out of 5 eggsNo like the older product

Pros: Great price
Was wonderful after hours on the phone with Samsung
helping me

Cons: Newegg's site said this was a direct replacement for the same item I purchased in 2012....same P/N except former ended in /Z4...this one in /EX2

Other Thoughts: Newegg made no effort to help make this work. Their site needs to state all support must come from Samsung/Seagate

1 out of 5 eggsSlow as 1995

Pros: None

Cons: Slowest drive I think I've used since the 90's.
I'm not one to do speed tests, but when I'm constantly seeing the drive light on 100%, and anything requiring disk access is slow, it's for sure the drive.

Other Thoughts: When I go look at the resource/disk tab to see if it's something unique. Nope, looks like normal applications.

1 out of 5 eggsCame in a Lenovo G510

Pros: Great size, average speed, worked just fine for more than a year.

Cons: Failed a couple of months after warranty.
Seems like many people had issues with this drive having the head stuck.

Other Thoughts: I won't be buying another lenovo computer, specially after finding out the low quality of the hard drive. I should have replaced this with an SSD as soon as i got it :(

All of my photos are lost now.

3 out of 5 eggsExcrutiatingly slow

Pros: Reliable, energy efficient

Cons: Redefines "slow"

Other Thoughts: I own a Lenovo Y410p, and from what I can work out, this is the hard drive that shipped with it.

I have owned this laptop for nearly two years now and have had zero problems with the reliability of the drive. However, I would estimate that a solid 3/4 of my time using the computer has been spent with I/O usage at 100%.

Want to run Dropbox or Google Drive? How about Google Chrome? iTunes? Skype? The moment you even think about opening these, the drive will have maxed itself out. Heaven forbid any of them start with Windows...

On that note, it takes a solid 10 minutes for the computer to become usable after booting up, purely because of this hard drive. CPU usage will remain below 5%, RAM below 40%, but HDD will be at 100%.

As soon as I am able, I will purchase an SSD to replace it and stuff a faster 7200rpm hard drive into this computer's extra bay. Until then, I must suffer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works great, hasn't failed. Used in a mirrored drive setup (needed to buy the same drive as one I already owned).

Cons: Not a WD drive?

5 out of 5 eggsPS4 upgrade

Pros: Works! Upgraded my PS4 to 1TB. Woo!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I put this in my PS4, upgrading the existing 500GB drive. (I put that one in my PS3). Upgrading a PS4 is super-easy. You don't even backup the existing drive (everything gets installed from the cloud after you login the first tme with the new drive). SUPER IMPORTANT TIP: When you get the PS4UPDATE.PUP file from Sony, you need the 795MB version. There is a 202MB version which is the "update", but you can't use that one for a fresh install. Make sure you have the 795MB version. They have the SAME FILENAME which makes it tricky. Also, you have to get the version you were on (or newer) before you removed the drive. Somehow the PS4 knows what version was on the drive you removed (it's stored in BIOS somehow). Otherwise, follow the instructions. The flash drive (or USB hard drive works also) has to be formatted FAT32. The folder structure and filename have to be upper-case, like this: \PS4\UPDATE. You can have the PS3 folder on the same hard drive, that's fine. Also, you can use a Mac to download the files, just make sure the drive that has the files is formatted FAT32. I have a 300GB USB hard drive that has \PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP, \PS3\EXPORT, and \PS4\UPDATE\PS4UPDATE.PUP all on the same drive. (Export is used on PS3, on which you DO have to backup and then restore). If you do a PS3, the PS3UPDAT.PUP (yes, there is no E) is the SAME for upgrading or replacing), and it's also around 200MB.

Summary:
PS4: No backup needed. Get PS4UPDATE.PUP that is 795MB, not the 202MB version used for updating existing systems.
PS3: Backup and Restore required. Get PS3UPDAT.PUP, which is 200MB and there is only one version.

Also, most online benchmarks indicate that a SSD hard drive is not a good upgrade on a PS4, as there is very little performance gain. Better to get THIS drive and get 1TB for under a Benjamin.

Good luck!

3 out of 5 eggs3 Year Lifespan

Pros: Fast and reasonably priced.

Cons: Samsung warranties these 1TB hard drives for two years; I have had two fail, one at 2 years 7 months, and the most recent failure at 2 years 10 months. I'm done with Samsung 2.5" drives.

3 out of 5 eggsIncompatible with 2011 Macbook Pro

Pros: N/A see below

Cons: Incompatible with my laptop

Other Thoughts: I cannot really evaluate the hard drive because it seems to be incompatible with my Macbook. Since the drive I'm replacing is a 3.0Gb/s drive with an 8MB cache and 5400 RPM spin rate, I'm really perplexed as to why it shouldn't be compatible. I can boot from the drive if it is hooked up through SATA to USB, but not if it is connected directly through SATA in the laptop. It seems like a fine piece of hardware, but I am quite disappointed that my laptop refuses to boot from it unless it is through USB.
