4 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

Pros: The hard drive itself works pretty well. Didn't have any issues out of the box. I've had the hard drive for about 6 months now, it's been working fine since I've had it.

The drive has decent transfer speeds, works pretty well.

Cons: There were a few issues with the cable and connecting the drive to the computer. After a few weeks the problem went away. Not sure what it was.

Other Thoughts: Overall a decent drive.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive

Pros: Small, fast, looks good, genuine Samsung drive.

Cons: Plastic case doesn't conduct heat well but it's only a 5400 rpm drive so heat might not be a big issue.

Other Thoughts: This is a Samsung HN-M101ABB 2.5" drive in a plastic USB3 interfaced case. Sequential Read/Write speeds were ~112MB/s MAX and ~80MB/s AVG across the disk (I have ASUS/ASMedia USB3 chipset). I checked the Seagate site and the warranty is 3 years. Future versions of this drive may be sourced from Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive; standard connector

Pros: Very light, smallest; connector on the HDD side snaps-in and stays securely connected; USB3 does not limit HDD speed (probably SATA2, 5400rpms inside; see below). Cable is standard lenght and medium thickness between Toshiba (unmannageable thick, and already failed) and Seagate (scarely thin for USB3). The connectors are standard (see below). NTSC formated, no useless software inside, only a nice icon to distinguish it from other drives loaded at the same time.

Cons: No cons really. I had it only for 2 days; so I can't judge reliability. People which need a more rugged (heavier) disk might try WD or Seagate instead. But in the end these gadgets are all -delicate-. Rugged-needing people should completely opt out from 2.5" devices. I wish it came with a hard leather case as older (2-year olds?) USB2 Samsungs used to.

Other Thoughts: I was worried before buying about the claims on non-standard connector and speed. The connector on the HDD side is a standard microB USB3, which is identical to the ones used by Toshiba, Seagate and WD (I have the 3 of them). The only difference is that Samsung's has a nicer bit of blue plastic added to it, on the HDD side (the PC-side is blue and like any other USB3 cable). USB2 connectors could be microB or microA (thicker). The microA has not being widen to be used in USB3 devices. So there is only one type of connectors for this size of device, and this is standard for 2.5" drives. Standard: Check.
I connected the drive thru USB3 (ASUS PCI-Express add-on card), and run an ATTO benchmark. The results were linear from 0.5 to 16-32KB buffers, and flatten from there to 8192KB at average speeds of 114.5MB/sec (read) and 116MB/sec (write). This is a typical SATA2 drive, unlimited by USB3. Speed: Check. If yours is different, just return it or check your rig before complaining here.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive was DOA

Pros: USB 3.0 interface

Cons: I bought this drive thinking I was buying the best quality drives made. Samsungs traditionally have the lowest return rate. And I was going to use it as a backup drive.

The day I opened it, it was DOA. Found out later that Samsung sources from Seagate (one of the worst drive makers out there).

I'm disapointed. If this one coming back fails, I'm never buying another samsung.

3 out of 5 eggs2.0 quality

Pros: Sale price, 1TB, portable

Cons: USB 2.0 speeds

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this if you're looking for USB 3.0 transfer rate. Good thing I got it on sale.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: if you have good usb 3 drivers and you plug this hdd
in the blue usb port you can get average
of 60 MB/sec that is 2x average of usb 2 hdd

Cons: proprietary usb connector so if the cable become deffective
you will have trouble to get an other one

4 out of 5 eggsVery Sharp

Pros: Very slick looking case, VERY small. Looking at the drive you would never guess its a 1TB external drive. Data rate on usb 2.0 is standard and having usb 3.0 capability is a definite +1 on the overall rating.

Cons: The only reason this drive is getting 4/5 and not 5/5 is due to the fact that you have only 931 GB available out of 1000GB drive. A little disappointing as the only thing on the drive when you first get it is a .inf file(for autorun) and Samsung's icon file. Which, doesnt even equal 500KB together. This is very annoying as I have gotten other external and internal hard drives that have 98% space available on them. This drive already has about 10% space unavailable to you(About 6-8% to be exact).

Other Thoughts: From an I.T. Administrator stand point, for the capability, size(physical and digital), and price, this product is def. worth the buy. I know its a little high as you can get 2 TB externals for this price at times(SALES WEEKENDS), but in the end, you pay for quality regardless of what your buying.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but Slow

Pros: - Very good price for 1tb
- Very small case
- Look good

Cons: Slow, just 27 MB/sec for a USB 3.0 is not good. I have an other usb 2.0 hdd that do 22 MB/sec.

I still recommend it.
