Misadvertisement
- Pros: Its inexpensive.
- Cons: Under their CD and documentation (By clicking Ethernet Disk Mini -> Documents) the FAQ has misleading information saying that drive can work under a domain setup. This is entirely not true and is a blatent misadvertisement. Lacie support was terrible. Avoid buying this unit at all costs.
- Other Thoughts: Avoid this unit at all costs.
Poor
- Pros: Metal case
- Cons: Junk Linux-based unit. Not compatible with Vista as shipped; requires firmware upgrade. Slow management interface. The "USB" feature advertised suggests it can be used as a USB attached drive, but it's a built-in USB Ethernet interface only. The drive can only be formatted and used through the slow and buggy HTTP interface that regularly throws cgi errors and Linux garbage ("grep"). Deleted files re-appear out of no where! Don't be fooled by the USB2.0 or 1000Mbps - Dog-slow transfer rates around 20MB/s or less.
- Other Thoughts: I was going to use this as a file server on my home network and synchronize files for offline availability. It's so buggy I dumped that plan and I'm only using them for a network repository for Vista-based backups. I would be much happier if I could just mount this thing on Windows, set up the file system the way I want, and then put it on an Ethernet interface that doesn't use Linux to mess it up with Samba junk.
- Pros: I have had this device up and running for six months without an issue. I use the device to share between three notebooks and as an ftp server and it works great.
- Cons: Fan can be a bit noisy
- Other Thoughts: Web interface is a bit slow but I do not use it often.
