4 out of 5 eggsi've had it for a while

Pros: So I've had this thing for about 1 year exact, and so far I've only managed to get about 400Gb of the 1Tb, so if your looking for space, you've found it. The eSATA makes transfers fast, the IEE a little faster then USB, but even the USB is fast enough if your not in a hurry. It looks nice, the blue light is neat. I've had no comparability issues; worked with windows Vista, windows 7, windows XP, Linux (Ubuntu 9.04/9.10) but have never tried it on a mac, but it does come with mac formatting utilities.

Cons: It stayed quite for about 10 months, but as i chewed up hard drive space, the fan decided to kick it up a notch and now its much much louder then it used to be. (basically from inaudible to to a high pitched loud PC fan, though its nothing that some TV at regular volume wont drown out)

The case picks up finger prints, but most of all it picks up scratches faster then a CD on concrete.

Other Thoughts: The Price is good, especially for the fact that you get all 3 connectors, 1TB and it looks nice. (don't wipe this with a dry cloth!)

5 out of 5 eggsGood enough to make be buy two more...

Pros: Very sleek, firewire and USB interface

Cons: nope

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these a while back to hold a bunch of media I had, and I loved them so much, I ordered two more. I've been using the four of them together for about four months and love them!

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Drive

Pros: 1TB is pretty big.

Cons: From the start it had a button that only stayed on if you pressed it *just right*. The design was horrible; a magnet for dust and fingerprints. No airflow at all. The drive would get very hot.
After a month of filling it halfway with data, it suddenly stopped working. After two days of testing for software issues, I had two options.
One: Send it in under warranty, and forget about my 500 gigs of irreplaceable photos, music, and video. (My film project was on the hard drive)
Two: Void the warranty and open it myself, to try to retrieve the data.
I had no choice but to go with option 2. I plugged it into my Hard Drive dock, and...
The hard drive was dead.
Why? Maybe because LaCie used a flimsy, cheap HITACHI 0A38016 1TB drive. Look it up. The amount of negative reviews for the drive is astounding.
I've lost $130. I've lost all my data, including my film project.
Please, just get a WD internal and a external hard drive dock. Stay away from this disgusting excuse of a ha

Other Thoughts: A "hard drive" is a device to store your data.
This is a flimsy bit of cheap plastic that will EAT your data RATHER than store it.
I will NEVER buy a LaCie drive EVER AGAIN.
How am I supposed to replace my footage? My files?
Sure, one could say that I should have gone with the rule to back up my hard drive every month.
But what do you do when your hard drive fails before the month ends?
I am sickened and disgusted with this "product". Having been very happy with a LaCie 500GB (Not of the same design), I feel betrayed and used.
This is the last purchase from LaCie I will ever make in my entire life!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drive

Pros: Quiet and fast. Blue light is kind of neat. 1TB equals gobs of storage space. eSATA makes for quick transfers.

Cons: Nice black finish picks up scratches and fingerprints.

Other Thoughts: Using this hard drive as a storage bank for home videos. Haven't had a single problem with it yet.

5 out of 5 eggsBig Problem After 45-Days'???

Pros: My 1st wk review was good until today when did a fresh os install. I went to restore all of data and the La Cie backup Genie stops saying error.

It transfers files that are not able to open.

I have called the La Cie support they told me to download and use some data recovery software?

This from a near new backup drive, that I purchased on April 14th 2009 it's now June 2nd 2009?

If somethings wrong its with either the electronic ic of the backup drive itself or the any case i'm out of photos, videos, documents, design softwares...all things that I " relied upon La Cie's backup drive ".

Cons: La Cie has so far not provided any means of reassurance after my speaking with technical support with a way of getting the data that is on the drive encrypted un encrypted.

So, that I can use the data from this " NEW " backup drive.

Other Thoughts: The last thing I or any customer wants or should have to do is to spend hundreds of dollars for data recovery that may not even work at all.

Specially when the data is there on the drive but the way the software is made is such that it stops and says error.

Thus the files that are transfered are all un-openable.

not accessible due to some error with the Manufacturability of this drive.

I have not even had this drive powered on 24/7 and I have only had it for a little over a month???

5 out of 5 eggsgood

Pros: 1 TB is a very good amount of storage. can easily download my animes, music , other videos, etc. and move them over there with more than enough space left. great if you want to upgrade your computer, copy old files, place in hd, and copy over; or just keep in there. FINALLY a device that doesn't have an overwhileming light. (i littlerly have to cover up some of the lights on my other devices when trying to sleep.) comes with all cables nice box. once again they do the light thing awesomely not bright but also you know it's on with a simple glace.

Cons: too high of gloss IMO fingerprints etc.

Other Thoughts: this is a great chioce for an extrnal hd, great comp. to buy from, if there were eggs for design then this would get a 10eggs out of 5.

5 out of 5 eggsLaCie 1TB Rocks

Pros: 1-Set It then forget it~!

2-Asthetics are simple yet beutiful.

3-Large capacity for cost

Cons: None at all...this is my first 1Tb drive and I must say it is one of the best investments I've made specially as I have it set to where once a day it backs up all data on my computer.

But, get this I don't leave it power on...only once the software kicks in do I turn the power on so it can do it's thing.

Other Thoughts: I would say next time around allow for a 2tb model...but then when I get to the point of that much data I will just get another drive.

Manufacturer Response:

thunder_2008, Thank you for your recent purchase of the 301315U 1TB Poulton Combo unit. Per your remarks in "Other Thoughts", we would like to make you aware that we do have a 2TB version of this drive designed by Neil Poulton. Although it doesn't have all the interface connections this drive has, it has 2TB of storage and allows for theuser to set a RAID 0 or RAID 1 system on the drive as well. LaCie Hard Disk MAX, Design by Neil Poulton (USB 2.0) #301838U. - LaCie representative

5 out of 5 eggsGood for me

Pros: It is huge storage capacity. Worked perfectly for me since I got it 4 or 5 months ago. I used for aux storage on a Dish DVR and it sometimes stays on for days at a time and has worked flawlessly fo rme.

Cons: None than I have noticed

Other Thoughts: never used any pacaged SW so no comment on that and I will get another one when I need it if I ever need it if the ratings stay as good as they are now!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing External HDD

Pros: * Plain and simple, this is a great external HDD; I've filled it up to 1/3 capacity and she is still working flawlessly.

* Streams HD videos daily from USB, and there hasn't been one hitch, it sometimes needs to buffer the feed from low data transfer however.

* External SATA is a great thing to have, can't wait to utilize it on my upcoming computer build!

*Extremely Quiet

Cons: * Runs a little hot when left on for awhile, but that is fine with me, I just turn it off when not in use.

Other Thoughts: * Buy this HDD, you will not be disappointed, Lacie made a fine product!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: Looks nice, worked while it worked.

Cons: Samsung Hard drive was loud from the start, then failed after about 24 days. Luckily I was within the place of purchase's return policy and was able to get a refund.

Other Thoughts: Stick with WD.
